Mikey Garcia vs. Robert Easter in Works for July 28 or Sometime in August in L.A.

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

A date and a venue for the lightweight title unification bout between Mikey Garcia and Robert Easter Jr. could be finalized soon.

The Los Angeles Times reported late Monday night that negotiations are ongoing for the Garcia-Easter fight to take place either July 28 or sometime in mid-August or late-August at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Showtime would televise Garcia-Easter if a deal is completed.

If their 135-pound championship unification fight comes to Staples Center, it’ll represent a homecoming for Garcia. The Oxnard, California, native, who now fights out of Riverside, hasn’t fought in the Los Angeles area since he knocked out Rafael Guzman in the fourth round of their June 2011 bout at Staples Center.

Great if it happens. Easter has held that belt tentatively since he won it. Garcia might be the one to take it.

And it would be Garcia's first unification.

I wonder if Easter will balk at the thought of facing Garcia on his home turf?

Easter undoubtedly prefers staying in the east, and may very well demand some strong financial incentives to risk his title by traveling to Los Angeles.

I don't think there's a might to it. Garcia WILL take it from him.

East Coast, West Coast or anywhere else Garcia kicks Easter's ass. If he insists on it being in New York I'd give him what he wants because the result will be the same anywhere in the world.

Garcia undoubtedly could care less. He's traveled east.

But Easter needs an edge and coming to Latino L.A. certainly isn't in his favor.

But you're right. No matter where, Garcia pummels Easter.

Also interested in the site, to see which champion gets somewhat of a home field advantage.

I'd say Las Vegas is out. Either east coast (probably New York/Brooklyn) or California (StubHub?)

You reckon Staples could take it?

Staples has been mentioned, so it's a possibility.

But that arena does host the Mares-Santa Cruz rematch next week, and Staples usually isn't crazy about doing a lot of boxing events.

It's El Lay's premier arena, so it's often booked months in advance--- especially for a Saturday night.

And July 28 is less than 2 months away.

I am a bit worried, because Garcia - Easter (which is IMO very interesting fight) is not officially anounced yet :-/

Dan Rafael has said that the fight has been inked and that it will be announced at any time.

July 28 is the date, he says.

Also on the Card Rising Young Star David Benavidez will fight former Amateur Sensation Matt Korobov. Props to Benavidez for taking a risky fight on the way to stardom.

oh please, korobov got ko'd in his big moment 4 years ago, is 35, and hasnt done anything at 168 or really much as a pro in general. since losing to lee hes fought crap. for a really hyped fighter being picked to beat everyone korobov isnt a good opponent at all

benavidez couldnt stop ron gavril in 2 tries but i think hell stop korobov . btw isnt benvidez caught up in a legal dispute

In what way is Korobov a risky fight? He caught Uzcategui when he was still green, and won an 8 round decision against a shot Bryan Vera. I don't care how highly thought of he was once upon a time, right now Korobov is a sizeable step backwards for someone like Benavidez.

Benavidez should be looking at fringe contenders, at the very least, not some overhyped journeyman.
