Cat v Bomber

Post by Taansend »

Apologies if this has been asked before but while the build up to Bellew Haye II has been going on I thought to myself who wins in a fight between Bellew & Carl 'The Cat' Thompson at Cruiserweight?

The Cat could whack, had not the best boxing skills (or chin?) but an incredible will.

Bellew a better pedigree but does that mean he beats Thompson easy enough?

Would be interested in seeing who think Carl wins this & why..... :TU:

Interesting one - I am a big fan Thompson, a naturally stronger and more powerful boxer than Bellew.

Boomer would talk about "going out on his shield" with "dees fighting fists like" but in reality would probably "listen to his corner" and "box to orders" for a points win.

Good fight - Bellew's own stamina is suspect, so I think it would resemble something of the Eubank rematch. Bellew get a lead, but Thompson wear him down.

Incidently, why or why hasn't Haye mentioned Stevenson more when Bellew talks shite about "always getting the job done". He was subdued from the offset that night and got KO'd. He was generally a level below Stevenson that night.

Fair enough, Mickey. Been a few years but I remember him going down a few times & getting stopped a few times. Was it just last of boxing knowledge or stamina issues or something else? Cheers.

In Bellews defence on that one he had boiled down to bare bones. He looked a lot sturdier after moving up.

He had great energy levels for Cleverly 1, better than Cleverly 2.

Yep, but he was f*cked for Stevenson. Sometimes they just reach that point.

that or he was intimidated from the start and thats why he never really got into it. i just dont think bellew was on that level and beating makabu or a one-legged haye doesnt really change that

I think it would be a good fight. The Cat was a notoriously slow-starter so Bellew would probably take the first few rounds, but Thompson would come on stronger in the second half. I think for Bellew to win he has to box smart and not let it turn into the sort of fight that favours Thompson.

I pick Thompson for a narrow decision...
