I mean he looks big. He should fight at ww. Probably they try to build him up at the lower weight classes having this big size advantage and get him some facil title shots till he goes up to 147-154 lbs?

It's a calculated risk and further confirmation that his promoter Oscar De La Hoya is grooming him to be another "Golden Boy." Oscar was a half-inch TALLER than Garcia when he debuted as a pro at age 19 but went for his first world title at 130. Had he not started at such a light weight he never would been the first fighter to win world titles at 6 different weight divisions!!apollo creed wrote: ↑04 May 2018, 01:32I mean he looks big. He's clearly following the Golden Boy playbook of winning his first world title at the lowest weight possible so GBP can bolster his accolades in the future as a "four-division world champ" (or however many he eventually wins).
Pretty safe to assume he wont match Oscar's 6 world titles, but that strategy is already in play by putting Garcia against smaller guys like Velez and Vargas. The risk of "starving" him to win a world title is that he could be weakened to the point where he is not fighting up to his potential and the whole strategy could backfire.
Keep in mind that DLH went for his first 2 world titles against relatively weak world champs (Jimi Bredahl at 130, Paez at 135). It wasnt until Oscar hit 140 that he stepped up his level of comp and won that title from JC Chavez Sr.
Expect Garcia to likewise face the weakest possible "world champ" at 130 and probably 135 as well. Of course, that depends on the whole strategy not BACKFIRING and Garcia losing even BEFORE he gets to fight for a world belt.![]()
