Post Fight Interview Transcript
Interviewer (Andy Scott): Tony you said it'd be repeat...It is repeat. If there were any questions after the 1st one. Does this answer them all?
Tony Bellew: I just wanna say first and foremost. I lost me brother in Law in August, and his Dad's here tonight and his two other brothers, and I gave an empty seat here tonight and I know he was here watching me. So Ashley Bobitz (Roberts?) I miss you more than life itself and I swear every punch I threw was with you...and Rachel I'll see you tomorrow babe to pick you up at the airport
Andy: Was that on your mind coming in?
Tony: Oh all the way through. All the way through. I've been on me own in the Hotel usually Gary stays with me in the Hotel, and I've been on me own all week and each night I've cried on the nights I've been on me own. So I'm a bit emotional but he's been on me mind since August, and I just miss him so much. I don't cry in front of me Mrs. I try to hide it, but I'm proud, I'm just proud. (I think he said Proud)
Andy: Beautiful words Tony, You banned your children and your wife Rachel, do you have a message because I'm sure that they'll be watching
Tony: I Love you so much. Everything I do is for them so...Listen David Haye is an amazing fighter. Take nothing away. He's just got into a slugfest tonight, and we hurt each other. I was hurt in that fight. He's got crazy power. But I did say from the start that with his style. Age does play a factor. Speed and Timing decreases with age. Power doesn't, but I take nothing away. He goes down a better fighter than me. He's a better fighter, he's a legend of the sport. So I'm just happy I've won...against all odds again.
Andy: How does this one compare to the 1st one?
Tony: It's still the same. Nothing compares to going to (Simpopwa?) I'm happy I'm safe because I came to this ring, and I was willing to just be finished in this ring because of the state of mind I've been in. I've cried mate every night in the Hotel room I've been in, and I'm struggling I'm struggling bad, but I've done it...and that's all that matters.
Andy: Is there some relief that the Bellew-Haye chapter in your book is over?
Tony: It's over! It's over! I've always admired David, he's always been a Legendary fighter but Styles make fights I've always said it, and my fat ass just keeps harping on with the same stuff. *To the crowd* Listen this has all been great, you've come out, you've paid to see it so Thank you, Thank you. You've been amazing. I don't care whether you boo, whether you call me Bellend, whether you call me Wanker...Thank You...because you paid. And I appreciate every single one of ya.
Andy: Apologies for the language there...What's next for the Fat Scouse as you call yourself? Is it back down to Cruiser?
Tony: Come over here Eddie because you've got a little cheeky smile on your face. I know you've got a plan. So do you want to tell them what your plan is? I don't know what it is because my plan is just...I don't know...every day I don't know what I'm gonna do. First of all. I wanna thank the staff of Mortyfield, Dave Chamber, Dave Ocock (just guessing with these names he's throwing out) and the family thank you very much...Who do you want? Who do yous want to see me fight? WHO...NEXT? WHO? I don't know
Andy: Do you want to fight the winner of the World Boxing Super Series at Cruiserweight? Do you want to fight a Heavyweight Champion? Can you do Heavyweight?
Tony: I'm a walking Super Series. Every fight I'm in is like the goddamn super series.
Andy: Dillian Whyte? Joseph Parker?
Tony: Ya know what me and Dillian have had a few words over the years. Dillian's a good fighter man, Dillian's a hard fight, but it's really for nothing. I need a World TItle and I need a big, huge name. Dillian done great last time out, beat Lucas Browne, but listen I need that Mega Star. Who have you got me for Ed?
Andy: Promoter Eddie Hearn...what's next? Tell us, Tell us a name he's desperate for a name
Eddie: You can boo me all you want tonight I don't care (crowd was booing by the way)
Tony (grabs the mic): Ya know what guys. What about Andre Ward? Andre Ward Pound for Pound King Man. Usyk, Gassiev, Ward...you name 'em, and I just keep beating 'em. So just give me someone. Not bad for a little fat, mouthy scouser.
Andy: Eddie? Who's next Andre Ward...they're both stars of the Creed movie this is like a real life Rocky movie. He seems retired, but...
Eddie: I have no idea, and I have no interest in even talking about it. Tonight is about one man. Actually Two men. Tony Bellew...I don't know where he come from. We gave him a world title shot in Goodson Park, He won it. If anyone knew the pain and suffering he's been through in the buildup to this fight to even make it into the ring. You should admire this man in and out the ring...and I'd like to say as well to David Haye. He's been an icon of British Boxing, and he showed plenty of heart tonight to keep getting up and keep trying. He didn't want to give up, but I'll tell you something right now...this man (points to Bellew) He can fight, and he's got one hell of a heart. Trust me. I know Liverpool's proud of him, Britain should be proud of him. I don't know where the journey goes, but it's gonna be a lot of fun.
Tony: My toughest fight gets off a plane tomorrow, and to try to convince HER I can carry on. That's a REAL fight. That's a fight I can't win. So Rach...can I carry on babe? Because that's all that really matters
Andy: Yeah good luck with that.
Re: Round-by-Round - Tony Bellew vs. David Haye II - 5 May 2018
I disagree, it’s not too early, he’s 35 and had some hard fights. In pure financial terms there aren’t many fight out there for him that could match what he supposedly got for the Haye bouts...Horse wrote: ↑05 May 2018, 19:03Do you like seeing boxers retire too early?chinarich wrote: ↑05 May 2018, 19:01He has his media work. He talks constantly about how he hates being away from his family in training camps and where is the motivation if he’s made plenty of money?
He’s had an excellent career, moved up from LHW to HW, won a world title at CW and beaten a former HW titleist and unified CW champion twice.
Do you like seeing boxers go on too long?
He's got plenty there for him and he's still got plenty left to offer.
Insisting that he retires at this point is weird.

Well.... I agree he might as well retire. No bigs wins out there for him and I think he has plenty of money but your reasoning with regards financial incentive isn’t sound. His future purses don’t need to match the Haye purses, they just need to be good money.chinarich wrote: ↑05 May 2018, 19:14I disagree, it’s not too early, he’s 35 and had some hard fights. Post Fight Interview Transcript Part 2
Andy: David, you've waited patiently thank you so much
David: No Problem
Andy: Your immediate reaction to that. It was repeat.
David: Yeah Tony boxed a great fight. He really did. He does some really clever stuff in there, and I couldn't quite get off, he was boxing very good...and I didn't, plain and simple.
Andy: You made no excuses last time you both went out of your way to make no excuses, but were you injured this time?
David: Listen, listen Tony was a bad man, and he boxed a great gameplan, and I couldn't quite get to him I couldn't quite make it happen. Everything happens for a reason, and he's victorious tonight because he was the better boxer.
Andy: You thought you were fit enough to beat him?
David: Yeah I thought I was going into the fight, but as it turns out I wasn't. You know he's a great Champion, and I enjoy the battle as tough as it was, you know sometimes you get a nemesis Tony was definitely my nemesis. We're a similar stature, similar size. We both throw hell for leather, and that's why we gel to make such a fun fight.
Andy: You've achieved most Professional Boxers dreams, but is this the end?
David: Umm I don't know, I didn't feel that great in there tonight. I'll have to review the tapes and see what went wrong. But ya know Tony Bellew boxed a fantastic fight. Strategic, Dave Caldwell again sticking the lead up but he's a great coach, great man, it's all fun really. But ya know Tony Bellew tip of the hat to him. He boxed a great fight, and I didn't. Plain and simple. Ya know after having these rounds, ya know getting back in there and just keeping the momentum going, maybe I'll put on a better performance but as of tonight I was bettered by the better man so congratulations Tony. It was a great fight.
Andy: Thank you for being so gratious. Do you want to give a message to these fans? You're still the home favorite
David: Yeah I hope everybody enjoy tonight. Myself and Tony Bellew put it on the line as you seen. We weren't trying to kill the clock, we were going for the knockout from the start. And ya know uh...when you get two fighters like me and Tony you're gonna get fireworks. You're gonna get magic, and I hope everybody enjoyed the night. This is entertainment at the end of the day so I hope everybody enjoyed themselves. Ya know, I'm happy...I mean I would've preferred to get the win, but I'm happy if you guys are happy. It's Entertainment so I hope everybody had a good night.
Andy: You've had your knockers in your career. For injuries, for toes, but these two fights you seem to have dug your toes in and been braver than you've ever been in your career.
David: Yeah it comes to a stage where you've just gotta let your fists do the talking. And tonight I tried to, but it wasn't good enough. And you know as crazy as it was I enjoyed being in the heat of the battle, I enjoyed being in there tonight. It didn't go my way, but ya know it's been such a long time since I've actually been in there, Throwing bombs at someone, and who better to do it than the Bomber himself.
Andy: Are you injured as we stand here now? Are you injured?
David: I'm fully healthy. Tony was the better fighter. He did what he needed to do to get the win. So taking nothing away from Tony Bellew. He was the better man on the night. So I'll have to review the fight, review the tape, and see exactly where I went wrong. But what it feels like went wrong is Tony was better tonight.
Andy: Well said and commisserations
David: No Problem, No Problem.
Hope you appreciate this Horse because it took a long damn time, and I had to listen to a lot of this sh*t multiple times to try to decipher it all
Genuinely felt bad you didn't get to hear the post fight interview after paying your money so I felt like you deserved this.

if hes gonna fight a non heavy it would be lame not to be the wbss winner
Re: Round-by-Round - Tony Bellew vs. David Haye II - 5 May 2018
How did Bellew lose his WBC Cruiser title? Honest question.
Saw the fight live in Australia this morning. good to see such honest performers sell out a major arena.

I never did like Andre Ward either so I'd be rooting hard for Tony in that one too.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑05 May 2018, 20:02He can fight the WBC champion anytime.. that's the fight for him..
Unless Andre Ward.. whose name qas mentioned more times than I thought it would be.
Fair play.. it's a ppv in the UK that..
I was never a big fan of Tony, but he's making a habit of picking fights with people I can't stand so I like him

He vacated after beating Haye the first time. Briedis was mandatory. Bellew had other plans. WBC made him emiratus champion meaning he can challenge the WBC champion anytime.
Kinda like when Vitali retired. He came back and went straight for the WBC belt against Samuel Peter.
Re: Round-by-Round - Tony Bellew vs. David Haye II - 5 May 2018
i would much rather have him fight the wbss winner then ward. ward-bellew seems like a mutual cherry pick. strange fight.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑05 May 2018, 20:02He can fight the WBC champion anytime.. that's the fight for him..

the wbss winner would be for his old belt and all the marbles at cruiser. he wins that hes an undisputed champ of a division. and the wbss guy has beaten maybe the best or second best guy who didnt enter.

Bellew should fight charr now for a version of the heavyweight title

What weight would Bellew fight Ward if it happened - some sort of 13 and a half stone catchweight?
