Joe Joyce v Tony Yoka

Post by oogiebe »

I 'd like to see these two match up in the pros. Would be interesting to see. I'd say at this point Joyce would take it and perhaps early. Joyce and Yoka fought three times (as far as I Know) in the amateurs with Yoka winning 2 of 3. I think Joyce would smoke him.

Thoughts?

tony yoka hasnt impressed me one bit as a pro and hes been chinny as an amateur. i also thought joyce clearly beat him in there olympic final. yoka got so many generous, benefit of the doubt decisions as an amateur, and his wife i thought also lost her olympic final. there was something suspect to me about there, clearly they were being favoured imo by the aiba

and that has me a little bit wanting to see yoka lose as a pro tbh.

yes his wife is estelle moseley or something like that. i thought he clearly lost to a chinese lady in the final but she got the decision. yoka though ive seen get maybe 5 or 6 decisions go his way that he easily couldve lost, just so happened that he got them all and hence won the worlds and olympics, but to me it was questionable. ppl go on about aj getting lucky vs savon, and maybe he was fortunate, but yoka has A LOT of questionable wins

you might want to keep a bit of an eye on ali eren demirezin, who battered and stopped yoka in world series of boxing competition a couple years ago. he may not be an elite prospect, but hes decent and its just interesting to see what ends up of these guys who beat top amateurs

As both still on the logical journeymen diet, it's not easy to say, how it can turn out now.

I can see them having a rematch of their Olympic Final as Pros one of these days. Joyce has certainly impressed more as a Pro thus far. He looked excellent in his last bout.

Tillman beat Tyson...very different sport pro v. Amateur.

Yeah the amateurs is all about pitty-pat point scoring nothing shots. They don't factor in the force of a punch merely the landing of a punch.

So guys that are body punchers or big power hitters are definitely better served in the Pros.

They have both fought excellent opponents so far for so few fights, this is rarely ever seen heavyweights.

yoka seems way too high in your rankings at 35. 82 to 35 for beating cyril leonet? a lot of guys beneath him have done more

and to limit it to fellow prospects, petar miljas for example has a much better win then that and is only at 57.

hrgovic has turner, little, sokoliwski, and love yet is over 30 spots lower?

its just cyril leonet man!

The ams are closer to the pros these days, Joyce deserved the Olympic final and Yoka was struggling towards the end of that fight. I have no doubt the pros are suited to Joyce a lot more. He’d grind down Yoka, who as mentioned above got gift after gift as an amateur, and stop him imo.

Joyce is a bit of a beast. Big, awkward lump who doesn’t stop coming forward.

Yoka didn’t deserve either of his gold medals. He and his mrs were pin ups of the amateur game weren’t they? Explains a lot

In the pro ring absolutely. I think you would visibly see Yoka intimidated within a round or two of Joyce hunting him down

Cyril has had quite a good recent record, Yoka stopping him was the first in a long time. Cyril has been the French champ for a while, the 13-10-3 record is a bit mis-leading Fabrice Aurieng was a decent fighter though I agree Leonet is not going to beat top 50 fighters. Yoka has 4 good wins (2 in top 100, the other 2 were not far outside) it is the total fights that put him past Hrgovic who has wins against 4 outside the top 100. Milas has that one great win against Kevin Johnson.
Joyce is up to 32 now following his win against Thomas.

Hasn't yoka been banned? Or am I making that up?

Joyce is a weird one. He looks awful and good all at the same time, wins against Lewison and Thomas are solid as fook for 4 fights. He gets caught a lot, but seems to know what he can take and has looked effective with the same style in the ams and the wbs against top opposition.

How do you match him though? I'd be seriously tempted to try and get a Wach or Ustinov type. Make him keep going rounds and see what he can do.

Yeah, a 1-year banned from the French boxing federation for missing some drug tests. Not sure if he'll find a way to box under a different commission or if he'll just take the year off. If he was a world class fighter, then a 1-year break wouldn't be that abnormal. But for a guy who was still learning the ropes, he's going to need to search for some paid sparring opportunities so that he doesn't stall and backslide.

Almost every fighter has a suspension here and there. Not all are PED's. Most are probably concussion protocol's with local commissions, as I've learned.

Yeah, but... I wasn't just guessing at the cause of his suspension.

To be fair, it seems that, allegedly, Yoka was in-transit in some form and unaware of the tests in each occurrence. They're like showing-up at his house in France when he's in the U.S. or on a plane.

Looks suspicious no doubt. He has a body that wouldn't surprise me at what we're alluding to here. :TU:
