Gennady Golovkin vs. Jermall Charlo.

Post by VG_Addict »

Charlo puts his undefeated record on the line against Golovkin. Someone's 0 must go.

Who wins?

Given the rejuvenated GGG that showed up 5/5 I call it a pick 'em fight as of today. But time is clearly on Charlo's side and his edge will increase as time passes.

If they were to fight next I'd still favor Golovkin, but as Best Coast suggested each passing month or year makes it lean more toward Charlo all the time.

Of all the bigger name young lions currently prowling the division though I think Charlo would be the best suited for Golovkin to succeed against.

I think he'd have more difficulty in a Jacobs rematch or against Billy Joe Saunders than he would with Charlo...at least as of this moment. Charlo is still improving though.

And weirdly...for the record I'd favor Jermall Charlo to defeat Billy Joe Saunders...one of those styles make fights kinda things ya know.

Golovkin easy. Charlo's brother barely beat Vanes, and I am not sure if Jermall would do much better job.

If Charlo can take a shot, he stops Golovkin late.

Too much speed and power which usually overcomes a defensively deficient power puncher.

Charlo is dangerous, but pretty easy to hit. GGG can stop him if he will be still in prime. If fight will happen in 2019 or 2020 im not so sure.

Charlo's power is overrated. He won't be able to keep GGG off him.

Charlo has done absolutely zilch, to suggest he'd be in any way threatening to Golovkin.

He's athletic, but I'm not sure he hits as hard as advertised, and his defence is suspect. He hasn't fought any top 15 middleweight yet. If he's mandatory, obviously it will get ordered at some point, but he'd be doing himself no favours if he doesn't challenge at least a mid-low top 10 fighter first.

I think it would look similar to the Brook fight. I'd expect Charlo to be slightly more durable, but offset by being much easier to hit. Golovkin by mid-rounds mercy stoppage.

The OP suggests this fight was been confirmed! :brick:

GGG takes it.

For the moment Golovkin is clearly favoured. Charlo looks sharp, but his opposition level is lower, his chin wasn't tested.

Could be a good matchup, I would watch. But I would rather see other fights for GGG first.

Fight with BJS, rematch with Jacobs or Canelo.

Me too partially. I'd call Canelo rematch an option #1. Then BJS fight. While I'm not sure, what can be more interesting - the rematch vs Jacobs or the fight vs Charlo.

That's a question that Martirosyan could probably answer having fought both.

Here's his fairly recent call out to Jermell Charlo. ”You got lucky your manager saved your [expletive] in the 1st fight which I took on 3weeks notice what extra money on the side you don’t want me at my best I will [expletive] destroy you if you really think you could knock me out why don’t you meet me in the Ring June 9th @TwinCharlo.”

I have to say that if this fight happens this year, GGG will win handily, but...by next year, more age will be showing and Charlo could take him. JMHO.

I kinda agree with Abel Sanchez. I doubt we're going to see GGG vs. BJS.

Saunders demands will be too high, whether it take place in UK or USA. Especially after the Lemieux win, he'd want much more. He already rejected what $2m was it or so?

He has more than enough power to keep Golovkin honest. And Charlo has the speed and boxing ability to do the rest.

Golovkin was reduced to being a cautious jabber when confronted with Canelo's power. He would fight the same against Charlo.

There's no way Golovkin would try to run over Charlo. He wouldn't be in there with a one dimensional smaller man a la Martiroysan.

That's a pity. Saunders fight could have been an interesting stylistic match-up, a boxer vs puncher confrontation.

GGG was box just as good as he can punch. I think it would likely be a a GGG-Canelo type fight.

I would favor Golovkin for now. Who has Charlo beaten? Has he ever been hit by anyone in Golovkin's league?

Golovkin vs Charlo is not going to happen.

I read Golovkin will face Murata next to break Hopkins record. After he does that, a roll of the dice vs Billy Joe Saunders makes sense.
