Emmanuel Rodriguez Will Be Part of World Boxing Super Series

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Emmanuel 'Manny' Rodriguez, who was crowned world champion last Saturday in London, is still in England to announce his participation in the World Boxing Super Series that will also feature the participation of the other current world champions at 118 pounds.

The Puerto Rican boxer secured his place in the tournament thanks to the fact that he defeated Paul Butler by unanimous decision to conquer the belt of the International Boxing Federation (IBF).

"There will be eight fighters. In the first round I have the power to choose a challenger that is ranked among the top 10. For the second round it would be against a forced champion and then a great final," Rodriguez explained to Carlos Gonzalez. "Whoever wins the tournament will keep all the belts, prize money and the Muhammad Ali Cup."

Ryan Burnett and Zolani Tete, the champions of the World Boxing Association (WBA) and the World Boxing Organization (WBO), respectively, are also slated to be a part of the World Boxing Super Series.

"We stayed in London for that. Tomorrow (today) we will meet all the world champions of 118 pounds for the official announcement. I will be fighting in September for sure, although I do not know against whom," Rodríguez said.

Oh that's great news. How could they top last times cruiser participants?
With this is how!
So impressed with Manny, I know he could have gone for the finish, but never having gone 10 rounds it was the smart choice to gain experience with a guy who still had a little something in the championship rounds.
All the best to him and the other Bantams, hopefully the winner of McD and monster joins in, pure icing on the cake.

Torturously boring to watch vs Butler. I'm not excited to tune in to see him again

Classy fighter. Showed Butler up for what he is, massively overrated!

This tournament looks to be shaping up nicely.

Any idea if they will be able to get the vacant WBC title involved?

It would be nice if this tournament ended with an undisputed champion, like the Cruiserweights will.

Wee bit harsh mate. Butler is a decent domestic Bantam, euro on his best day. He was game through 12 rounds- just not at the same level.

He's achieved a lot aye mate but the build up he was getting when he was over on BN with Frank was beyond a joke and I couldn't see it. I thought i was missing something. They bigged him up something awful. That's twice he's stepped in to genuine world class and twice he's been whipped. Even the first Hall fight was a debatable decision IMO although he won the rematch well.

Plus he stole me boyhood heroes nickname

Same, really enjoyed watching him, obviously a special talent and looked as though he could of stepped it up a couple of gears if needed.
