Looking some ATG's fights, Found John H. Stracey, which was the era I was looking. Much to my amazement, this picture came up. Now, please tell me this is a joke!!!????

That is a strange one.
I'm pretty sure that's Stracey, but where did the double chin come from?
And what's with the kingly getup? Was he preparing for a pro wrestling career?
Of all the photos there are of Stracey, how did BoxRec choose that one?
Fine editorial judgement.

Re: Boxers with brilliant names
1970's had some cool names:
Bennie Briscoe
Hegeman Lewis
Billy Backus
Dino Dennis
Arumondo Muniz
Tony Locata
Not so much as funny or weird but cool. IMHO.

Re: Boxers with brilliant names
Hedgemon Lewis was a great name. Pretty talented welter also.
I was looking at another thread and wondered how I could have overlooked 70s flash in the pan Zovek Barajas.
Just a great, unusual name.
Ring announcer Jimmy Lennon always let it roll off his tongue dramatically when introducing the Mexican welterweight.
"Hailing from See-nah-low-ah May-Hee-Co (pauses to let the crowd roar) EE-PO-LEE-TOW ZO-VEK BA-RAH-HAAAAAASS.
Classic stuff.

I used to sit in class and imitate Jimmy Lennon when the teacher would take roll.
He or she would call out a name and I would repeat it as Lennon would.
Needless to say, most of these droll teachers were not amused and I earned quite a bit of detention time.
I was just paying homage to boxing's best ever ring announcer.
The teachers were absolutely clueless.

Thank you. Too bad they didn't share your sense of humor or appreciation.
