Medical exams- David Haye

Post by dalcumly »

I'm basically asking questions here. Pro boxers get annual Medicals including, I believe, a brain scan.
Does the medical simply test blood pressure, eyesight, eardrums and a blood test?

I would have thought that when a high profile boxer like Haye has such an obvious injury the pre fight/annual medical would focus on the recovery from that injury.
I'm no doctor but I cannot imagine an orthopaedic consultant passing Haye's Achilles fit for purpose. It seems common sense to me that the organisation approving the Haye v Bellew fight ie the Board, would order an examination of the previous injury.
It's not just Haye, surely if a fighters jaw's broken , or Brook's broken cheek would require further examination before being passed to fight?

Great post. I was thinking similar myself. Haye could not walk for the first fight so in s ring with s world class fighter is ridiculous. I think the board have major questions to answer.

He would have been issued with a stoppage form when he was stopped in the first fight and would have to have medical clearance to have suspension lifted

Hmmm, yeah I do sometimes wonder what gets checked - remember when Barker went to Germany to fight Sturm but was clearly carrying a bad injury? Or when Cook fought Burns?

Fair point. It's pretty clear he was barely hanging together for both fights.

The Cook one was a joke. There were rumours beforehand he was gubbed and you could see him during the ring walk stretching his back funny so there was clearly something up!

I was well up for both they fights you mentioned as well! Major let down!

Yep the Cook one was ludicrous. The paying public suffer due to someone still wanting the payday so much that they'll go in knowingly injured. There need to be some checks in place to stop that happening.

I couldn't stand the prick either! He was supposed to fight Harrison and Harrison had to pull out because he was bang in the middle of an alcoholic breakdown. In the build up Cook was a fuckin wank! Then Arthur failed to turn up against him and lost! Was hoping for some proper payback from Burns but was robbed
