Fantastic interview with Eamonn Magee

Post by Deserter »

No better writer in boxing than Donald McRae IMO and this piece on Eamonn Magee is further proof of that. Reinforces the fact he's a hard, hard man, but testament to McRae's talent is the way he's able to get beyond that persona and it ends up as a pretty heart-breaking read when you realise what Magee has been through:

Read this earlier, it was a very good read. Will have to give Magee's book a go soon.

Better than Mitchell's guff that's usually in the Guardian.

Excellent piece. Very well written. Really feel for the guy but he's one hard dude! I didn't know he was drinking whilst training etc... Makes you wonder how far he could've went if I knuckled down because he was a classy operator.

Definitely buying his book.

Great little read.

Made me re-watch the Hatton fight. Forgot what a class act Magee was.

I remember seeing him in at lunchtime in a bar in Belfast just a day or so before his rematch with Paul Burke for the Commonwealth title putting the pints away. I went straight to the bookies around the corner and put money on Burke to win. Magee stopped Burke.

I have approached him a couple of times at Boxing do's and fights and every time he has been a gentleman happy to talk boxing.

The guy is currently fielding trouble on a daily basis for doing the book at all, he's got a black eye in the article photos, and you want a discount? Tough crowd.
