GGG ... Slipping ?
We didn't see that much of GGG during his recent 2nd Round KO of Vanes Martirosyan, he got the win and is on top but did you see any signs of weakness ?
Did he look off to you ?
Older slower but still the big puncher who is showing some signs of wear and tear ?
What do you think ?

1 - Ability to punch
2 - See number 1
Couldn't tell from that if he slowed or showed wear and tear. Really can't.
Re: GGG ... Slipping ?
if you mean he was slow and got hit easy thats always been the case, of course except when he looked an untouchable slickster vs lemieux
Re: GGG ... Slipping ?
He never looked slow and easy to hit...
You might as well say Floyd Mayweather looked slow and easy to hit versus Zab Judah and Jose Luis Castillo... He won those fights and the results speck for themselves... Sugar Ray Leonard looked slow and easy to hit versus Terry Norris and Muhammad Ali looked slow and easy to hit versus 6-0-1 Leon Spinks...
They were the same age (Ali) or a couple years younger (Leonard)... But the deal is they got pounded and they LOST

Re: GGG ... Slipping ?
Looks like the same Golovkin we've always seen when he fights weaker competition.
Gets hit once or twice and then puts them away. Same at 36 as he was at 30.
As I've been saying for a long time---Golovkin hasn't been declining as many like to insist. He had just been fighting higher caliber opponents and didn't look imposing.
But a less formidable fighter like like Martiroysan helps to disguise the blemishes.

From the opening bell GGG's hand speed wasn't blisteringly electric even though he appeared to be throwing some heavy shots early.oogiebe wrote: ↑08 May 2018, 20:59I can't say anything new was learned. His stance was very basic and nothing out of the ordinary, he didn't look like he was using his body to bend duck or sway to the side to create angles for scoring punches.
He got clipped with a straight inside the last minute which he acknowledged.
Roy Jones had said in the pre fight coverage that they had sparred before and there seemed to be an understanding as both boxers nodded at one another after a borderline low blow from Martirosyan with 26 seconds remaining.
Martirosyan went on to land a couple of insignificant blows on GGG as the round ended.
GGG blew him out in the 2nd as we're all aware.
I don't know, let's put the No 1 under some scrutiny.
Re: GGG ... Slipping ?
Right... Some real stupid or blind folks who can't count fair punches landed. Floyd landed many more. The punch stat guy they used must have had 20/200 vision... which is legally blind... The 3 judges had Floyd winning handily and unanimously.

He looked slow, powerful but slow and predictable.

Some of the concerns you’ve raised about Golovkin’s performance levels were things that I thoroughly anticipated.Evander wrote: ↑08 May 2018, 20:55GGG ... Slipping ?

In fact, here’s my prediction of the outcome of the Golovkin-Martirosyan mismatch, which I submitted to the forum on the 19th April (click on the hyperlink to see the thread that contains this post), and it seemed that the only thing I got wrong was the round in which GGG chose to stop his opponent:
Enlightened-One wrote: ↑19 Apr 2018, 08:20Gennady will inevitably carry Vanes Martirosyan, like he did with Kell Brook and Willie Monroe Jr., until the third round before executing his overmatched opponent by dropping the guillotine during the third round.
GGG is likely to become complacent, become defensively irresponsible and also allow his opponent to land most of his own shots, in order to reward his loyal fans by putting on a “big drama show”, because they’ll otherwise feel outraged if he knocks out the Armenian during the first round.
It seems that almost everyone realises that this bout is nothing but a glorified sparring session, so I don’t expect Gennady to ruthlessly exploit the paying customer by forcing the stoppage within the first minute or so. He’ll try to deliver value for money.
It’s likely that many people will subsequently criticise GGG and claim that he’s “looking past-his-prime”, due to their belief that he delivered a subpar performance, because Martirosyan is likely to be (briefly) more competitive than they expected him to be, but mark my words, Golovkin will only look “sloppy” during certain spells of this bout for the sake of entertainment alone.
The fight will last as long as the Kazakh wants it to and there’s nothing that Martirosyan can do about it, since it's a complete mismatch.![]()

Re: GGG ... Slipping ?
Charlo is the best at 160 for me. I think he's got the skills to beat GGG. You won't see GGG blocking a shot then KOing his opponent with the same hand in one fluid motion like Charlo did to Williams. Not saying it would be easy because Charlo gets hit but he has 1 hit power and for me he gets him out of there, GGG gets hit too cleanly too often and Charlo ain't running all night. BJS might also beat him if his running works.
Re: GGG ... Slipping ?
Here we go again with this "Slipping" BS and oh how GGG is "vulnerable". What's wrong with you people? He's coming off of a 2nd round KO in which he landed 8 or 9 punches in a row from a variety of angles never missing a punch in the last shoeshine and now he's slipping.
Give me a break. GGG likes to get hit in the early rounds to gauge his opponents power. He's done it in almost every fight i've seen him in. Every other fighter has a couple of seconds of good work before he lowers the boom. SO tired of the crap. His opponent even said that he's never been hit that hard in his life. Shut up now.

Re: GGG ... Slipping ?
GGG does get hit clean quite a lot, but he can take a punch. Vanes landed a nice combo and piled a bit of pressure at the end of round 1, GGG just moved back a little. No issue.
I have no doubt that he has weakened. It's his fighting style.
That clean shot Canelo hit him with, would have knocked most out but GGG didn't flinch.

Re: GGG ... Slipping ?
I do think that GGG would carry Vanes longer to shake off some ring rust, but the liver shot landed by Vanes at the end of round 1 clearly made him uncomfortable and not willing to take any more of those.
The fact that after deciding to take a durable guy like Vanes out, Golovkin was able to achieve that in under 2 minutes, makes me think that if anything, this fight didn't demonstrate any slipping. The fight didn't give any new information on the matter.

Re: GGG ... Slipping ?
Yeah, that was my point in my first post. Based ONLY On that fight we learned nothing new. Still hits hard isn't new. Can't ever blame anyone for a reaction to a punch to the liver.boxing_rocks wrote: ↑09 May 2018, 09:42 I do think that GGG would carry Vanes longer to shake off some ring rust, but the liver shot landed by Vanes at the end of round 1 clearly made him uncomfortable and not willing to take any more of those.

Re: GGG ... Slipping ?
He won as easy as I could expect. Don't think we learned anything from that.
Re: GGG ... Slipping ?
I think in general he's on the decline. But he was fine at the weekend. Went through the motions a little bit in round 1. Those couple of decent shots that Vanes landed at the end of the round were probably the worst thing he could have done. They seemed to wake Gennady up and then he came out and finished him without breaking sweat. People have extremely high expectations of Golovkin.

Re: GGG ... Slipping ?
I really didn't see it in that fight. At all. I'd even say Willie Monroe had more joy against Golovkin than Brook did. The guy won one round (R2). He got hurt in round 1, smashed around the ring in round 3 (RJJ said he saw Kell give up mentally at the end of that round), still got out jabbed in round 4 even though Golovkin took a breather, and we all know how round 5 went. People seem to remember this fight being much closer than it was. In reality, the one very good uppercut Brook landed, wasn't that much better than the shot Vanes landed at the end of round 1.
Jacobs fight? Maybe. Jacobs was a step up though.
Re: GGG ... Slipping ?
..didn't taller, younger and having a longer reach Jacobs, who on the fight night belonged actually in a different weight category, STILL lost? ...I wouldn't waste time speaking of GGG "slipping"..
