Matchroom Monte Carlo Card - 24 November 2018

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Eddie Hearn and the Casino de Monte-Carlo are delighted to announce the third edition of Monte-Carlo Boxing Bonanza – a night of World Championship Boxing will take place at the prestigious Salle Médecin of the Casino de Monte-Carlo on Saturday November 24, live on Sky Sports.

Matchroom Boxing return to Monaco after two thrilling November nights of action in the Principality, with Stephen Smith and Jamie McDonnell involved in a pair of true wars in World title fights against Jason Sosa and Liborio Solis in 2016 in Hearn’s first bill in Monaco.

“Monte-Carlo Boxing Bonanza is quickly becoming one of the most hotly anticipated and important nights in the world boxing calendar,” said Hearn.

“Our first two events in Monte-Carlo have been fantastic and we will be working hard to put together another huge night of World title action with some of the biggest names in the sport taking centre-stage in the stunning Casino de Monte-Carlo.”

“The Casino de Monte-Carlo is thrilled to welcome the Monte-Carlo Boxing Bonanza in its iconic private gaming room and to take an active part in the organization of this international event,” said Pascal Camia, Executive Vice President, Gaming Operations.

“This outstanding tournament contributes in positioning Casino de Monte-Carlo as a stunning place for extraordinary events.

Usually a chance for the non ticket sellers to get a run out. I’d expect Scott Quigg to possibly get a run out. Kid Galahad, Jamie Cox. Possibly Yelusinov.

Should try getting a world title fight on like the previous 2 shows.

These cards are grim! I've seen a better atmosphere at a funeral!

Quigg vs Galahad would be interesting.

Though that should probably be saved for a show in the north of England.

This particular casino was shiit!

They should use that Salle del Ettoile or whatever it's called. Where GGG fought Murray as well.

Quigg won't be used for Galahad to gain a world championship opportunity. Could still take place though.

Hunter should win. Good for his momentum.

He was supposed to be used to help get Bakole over but that backfired. I still think Hunter would do wel as a CW, but he’s already doing well as a HW. Will be a good gatekeeper in the future.

Yafai's title reign must be the most underwhelming about right now, he does have some decent defences but always on undercards with next to no promotion and promises of a big fight around the corner, I really rate him as well, one of the champs we have who can maybe outskill opponents at the top level, he can box and he can scrap as he showed last time against Carmona who's usually durable but couldn't last the course with Yafai

Ive only seen Gonzalez the once when he challenged Ancajas for the world title last recently, he lost every round and was stopped late but I remember thinking he was a solid boxer just in with a great champion, he might give Yafai some problems, it all depends how Yafai chooses to box him, he could stop him if he's in the mood for a tear up or he could dominate him on the cards scoring a knockdown or 2 on the way, I see the latter

Didn't Carmona wobble Yafai momentarily with a big shot?

i cant remember tbh. hoping that kals reign gets more interesting soon, it wouldve been nice for him to be part of the hbo superfly shows.

i feel like he should be fighting someone at least like cuadras or arroyo instead of just this guy already stopped by anjacas. or at least go right for anjcas (though with how bad jerrwin was last time maybe top rank dont want to put him in with kal now)

with kal, i want to know where hes at . i watch him and see a guy who could feasibly beat some good top level names, but not someone who is so obviously good that we know he would. lets see what hes got.

I agree with the comments about Yafai. Ever since he won the title we’ve been waiting for him to step up against a top challenger or a fellow champ. This has to be his last heavy odds on favourite fight.

I don’t mind this show too much. A couple of decent fights (the Ustinov and Buglioni fights) and whilst I don’t think the Lebedev or Yafai fights will be competitive neither fighter are often in poor fights.

Yafai defended against 2 Japs and now this will be his 2nd consecutive Mexican.

Those Jap opponents were crap in reality. One unbeaten, Hearn just knows how to sell.

Whatever happened to the Ancajas unification?

The ONLY boxer Yafai and Hearn have called out is Chocolatito. AND that was AFTER he was beaten by Sor.

They knows it’s still a decent fight for Kal.

Hearn would need to cough up around £500k to get him in the UK.

I don’t even know if it would cost that much. His biggest reported purse was when he was KO’d and he got $600k. He got $200k for his last fight so they may be able to get him for £300k/$400k.

If he is to fight in US, then maybe. He’d want more for a fight in UK I guess. Hearn knows how to work deals out.

Wouldve preferred to see Eddie allow Yafai to headline this one, its the only world title fight on the card, instead we have Denis Lebedev fighting Mike Wilson, is Lebedev a big star out in Monte Carlo??

Never heard of Wilson before he's unbeaten in 18, carries around a 50% KO ratio and he has fought absolutely no one of note, Lebedev has been fairly inactive since losing to Gassiev and I haven't seen him since that fight which I thought he drew but he has picked up a couple of wins recently including a stoppage over Altunkaya who put in a pitiful effort recently against Shumenov

Hard to tell how good Wilson actually is but theres nothing on his slate to suggest he'll give someone of Lebedev's experience much trouble

Noticed Mike Wilson was 14/1 so looked him up and he is a 3 times national amateur champion.

The American Heavyweight national amateur winners are not much of a successful production line anymore and he looks a fair bit older than 35. with his national final wins being over 10 years ago.

From the brief footage he looks quite long and rangy but lacks any real zip.

No names of note as a pro, but Lebedev is 39 and had many hard fights he maybe beginning a downward slope, so only as the odds are very long, Lebedevs eye against Jones, Wilson amateur pedigree and unbeaten record I have taken a punt!

Come on Mike!
