How highly do you rate Joe Joyce? Is he ready for Dillian Whyte?

At this point in time I don't know who is more over rated. Whyte or Joyce?
I'm not sold on either yet

...and he'll lose. Too soon for the 31 y/o rookie.
Re: Joe Joyce would take Dillian Whyte in his next fight claims manager, Sam Jones
Considering Joyce had about 15 WSB fights, is he really any less ready for a step up than a pro that has had around 20 fights, with the first 10 being against journeymen?
Not saying Joyce beats Whyte, but considering his amateur experience and age how much more learning should he be doing?

He's 33 this year. Not got a great deal of time on his hands. I like the fact he's trying to push for the big fights so early in his career, although some fans will complain hes being pushed too fast and not deserving of his big fights if they come.
Re: Joe Joyce would take Dillian Whyte in his next fight claims manager, Sam Jones
33 I stand corrected, but same point. He is a current day version of Big John Tate IMHO.Ringnews24 wrote: ↑10 May 2018, 10:51He's 33 this year. Not got a great deal of time on his hands. Whyte is the most overrated boxer in Britain at the moment.
Re: Joe Joyce would take Dillian Whyte in his next fight claims manager, Sam Jones
Not a fan, but I disagree. He portends some troubles, to some extent, to every HW in the top 5. He's clearly number 2 right now, and barring some extraordinary change, for the next 12 - 18 months, at which time the likes of Deboise; Gorman, etc should be in view.keithmoonhangover wrote: ↑10 May 2018, 10:56 Whyte is the most overrated boxer in Britain at the moment.

I wouldn't have any issue if he's getting big fights based on who he's just beaten. Someone taking twenty fights to build themselves up to a certain level versus someone who got there in five makes them equal as far as I'm concerned. As you say time isn't on his side so he may as well have a go at getting up to speed quickly.Ringnews24 wrote: ↑10 May 2018, 10:51He's 33 this year. Not got a great deal of time on his hands. Havent seen anything from Joyce yet barring size and pressure to suggest he has the tools to compete properly in the pros, he is extremely cumbersome and leaves massive holes in his defence, ive been wrong plenty times before but will be surprised if Joyce can keep going up in levels successfully.
Re: Joe Joyce would take Dillian Whyte in his next fight claims manager, Sam Jones
Both approaches work so long as the fighter gains some experience from the fights they have. Building a resume is a sure fire way to polookaville.dirk2686 wrote: ↑10 May 2018, 11:17I wouldn't have any issue if he's getting big fights based on who he's just beaten. 1st i agree Whyte is very very over rated.oogiebe wrote: ↑10 May 2018, 10:59Not a fan, but I disagree. He portends some troubles, to some extent, to every HW in the top 5. 2nd being number 2 in Britain shows the lack of depth in Britain.
Joshua no doubt is number 1. But the rest are just average at best

Who is Sam jones which other fighters does he manage ? Coz I’ve never heard of him ! Has he even got a board licence ?
Re: Joe Joyce would take Dillian Whyte in his next fight claims manager, Sam Jones
If he indeed faces some top guy instead of chosing possible easier fights, then Whyte can be the best option. Joyce will have more chanes, than against H. Fury or Miller, for example.

Agree with all this. Whyte is largely rated on catching Joshua in a round he probably lost and in a fight in which he was rendered unconscious. Hughie is pretty crap lets face it. Bellew isn't a heavyweight. Haye is finished. Dubois is getting FW'd all the way to 35-0 with his biggest win a great acid test fight against the then 33-16 Chisora. Joyce is unknown but to be honest I'm not sure looks more than a clubbing brute at the minute. And Fury is either the comeback king or a boring fat lad who got lucky on his big day.

Watch John Tate and tell me he doesn't remind you of Joyce. He's a plodding puncher that looks amateurish.

I thought Hughie beat Parker. AJ refused to exchange with Parker. Is he crap, too?
Re: Joe Joyce would take Dillian Whyte in his next fight claims manager, Sam Jones
Absolutely no surprise with this at all. If Lacy was a traveller you'd probably swear down he beat Calzaghe.mickey1975 wrote: ↑10 May 2018, 12:17I thought Hughie beat Parker. AJ refused to exchange with Parker. Is he crap, too?
Re: Joe Joyce would take Dillian Whyte in his next fight claims manager, Sam Jones
Of course he would love that fight. Would have a decent chance of a win and would benefit from whytes hard work by grabbing his rankings. No chance Whyte takes that fight.
Re: Joe Joyce would take Dillian Whyte in his next fight claims manager, Sam Jones
Whyte would edge this at the moment.
The problem for Joyce is going to be getting highly ranked people to fight him, he might not be pretty but his amateur career and the word of those who have sparred him confirm he is very effective.
As to the UK heavyweight division its very strong at the moment. T Fury, H Fury ,AJ, Whyte, Joyce, Chisora, Dubois and Gorman is a pretty good strength in depth.

Joyce is in a tough position as a fighter with punch but no rounds looking for a fight. He's kind of arm1 wrote: ↑10 May 2018, 13:02 Whyte would edge this at the moment.

between up and comer AND an older fighter. He needs fights now but he's too dangerous for a top 20 HW to risk. IMHO.tweener
Re: Joe Joyce would take Dillian Whyte in his next fight claims manager, Sam Jones
tbh i dont really find joyce overrated at all in general, for every person who says he beats luis ortiz there are more who says he looks slow and crude as eff and will be found out stepping up
i actually think hes easy to underrate, people go on about how awful he looks, yet he takes out lewison in his pro debut before whyte did and he destroys thomas faster then anyone else and brutally. hasnt lost a minute.
going back to the amateurs too he beat loads of elite world class ams who had 'prettier' styles. and he handily beat hrgovic in wsb. in terms of actual effectiness, he really hasnt been lacking at all, like rm1 says. even on the 'pretty style' test dominic brezeale to me actually looks worse, yet hes done okay.

Re: Joe Joyce would take Dillian Whyte in his next fight claims manager, Sam Jones
Probably because he's somewhat of an enigma. 33 y/o with little pro experience. Difficult to assess, given the uniqueness of his position right now. I looked at his last two fights and he gets better, but I just don't know really. You make a fair point though.jamamb wrote: ↑10 May 2018, 13:21 tbh i dont really find joyce overrated at all in general, for every person who says he beats luis ortiz there are more who says he looks slow and crude as eff and will be found out stepping up
