As to the UK heavyweight division its very strong at the moment. T Fury, H Fury ,AJ, Whyte, Joyce, Chisora, Dubois and Gorman is a pretty good strength in depth.
I mean no disrespect to British boxing or it's fans.
Tyson Fury is scheduled next month still no opponent named. Is it still on? Does he still have it?
Hughie is unproven with zero power
Whyte as pointed out gets too much credit for losing convincingly to Joshua.
Joyce and Dubois are question marks at this early in their careers.
Chisora has lost every time he steps up being domestic level

Joshua is the only stand out amongst them.
The division is average when excluding Joshua

Absolutely no surprise with this at all. If Lacy was a traveller you'd probably swear down he beat Calzaghe.
Because Lacy was a black “bodybuilding type” do you think he beat Joe?

Joyce's opponents combined record in his first 4 fights tells a tale. 47-9-3. Not many have had a comparable start.

Totally disagree Tyson beat an all time great, Hughie was robbed against a world champion and was a world amateur champion,, Joyce was a world level amateur, Whyte has beaten ex euro and world champions and the others are at or close to European level.
British heavyweight boxing has never had such strength in depth.

Tough fight to call.

But I’d be putting my money on Joyce. Whyte had problems with Chisora coming forward. Joyce does the same with a better engine.
Joyce open though and Whyte could catch him and hurt him coming in.

Good fight.

The top 8 British Heavies paired off with the top 8 from the USA in a sort of boxing Ryder Cup would be good. :box:
With a fit Fury UK would be favourites - when has that ever been the case before ?

If you're speaking about Joyce, he's already 33 y/o.

Yeah I know. I'd think there could be a few more reasonable stepping stones he could take before pushing him in there with the Top 10. I mean don't get me wrong, I'm sure the Top 10 would be good for him to be facing within 6 months, but I'd assume he could get some fights between guys 15-30 range first.

I'm unimpressed with Joyce. As I've said, he reminds me too much of Big John Tate.

I thought he looked solid in his last bout for sure. Hadn't seen a lot of him other than that honestly. Never really got to see Tate, but I'm aware of him.

I always hear about the Mike Weaver fight, but never actually went back and watched it.

If you watch the Weaver Tate fight, only watch the last six rounds. It'll give you enough of what the fight was all about and make the end just as surprising.

There aren't a lot of heavies about, most have sparred against each other, if Joyce seriously wants the fight it's because he already knows he has his number

Not saying Joyce beats Whyte, but considering his amateur experience and age how much more learning should he be doing?
Good point. And Whyte has never faced the likes of Usyk either.
I think it would be a good match. Probably won't happen because Whyte has bigger fish to fry and fighting Joyce makes no career sense.

Joyce and his team need to target some gatekeepers like Gerald Washington, Stiverne, Helenius etc. as no-one on the verge of a title shot is gonna give him an opportunity and rightly so.

Joyce needs a couple or three more fights where he steps up in competition before we can make that statement. He is a plodder; still open too much; and we haven't seen him tested really. He can take a path to a title shot, but it'll take another 18 months at the least to prepare him, IMHO.

Just shows how misleading records can be. Joyce's opponents have been awful, two of them morbidly obese. Uncountable fighters have fought tougher guys.

Joe Joyce stayed an amateur for far too long. If you are going to be any sort of success in heavyweight boxing, you have to be taking on people of the level of DIllian Whyte by the time you are 33.

It's perfectly possible that it's too soon for him. But I don't think he has time to wait. He has to go for it now, and hope he's up to it. Waiting is simply not an option. When you get into the big fights they come slow, for business reasons.

It's the trade off. If you want a gold medal, then staying in the amateurs until you are 30 massively increase your chances of that as most quality boxers are long gone into the pros by then. But if you then want to turn pro at 30, you have to rush.

Joyce is stuck between a rock and hard place as this alludes to. Agreed he has to rush.
