Not in his last fight he didn't. In the few Am fights I saw of his, the jab he puts out is a pawing one, then occasionally one of these comes from about 2 metres away :o

That doesn't look anything like a jab.

Have you seen him in against Usyk? He used the jab quite a bit. Cracking good fight.

Joyce is hard to watch due to being so poor technically. One of the worst technical fighters in the game. It a testament to how poor the division is if he becomes a legit contender.

This :TU:
I think, providing he has a really good chin (which is obviously yet to be established), he can become somebody like Mariusz Wach. Waaaay too clumsy, with poor movement and no hand speed. I’ve been wrong in cases like before this but here JJ is also old so not especially likely to make a huge progress regarding his motor skills.
I also have a bit of a closer insight as used to train in the same amateur gym as him. Wouldn’t say he’s turned into a different fighter. Slowed down if anything after putting on quite a bit of weight.

The vote as it stands is win by decision 3 v 3
A win Inside the distance 6 v 6
Too close to call 2

My vote was too close to call. The spread would tend to support that conclusion.

Going just from the Thomas fight I can see why anyone who was unfamiliar with Joyce would form the impression that he's just a huge tough guy who gets by on brute force and ignorance, but having watched him as an amateur, and a pro, and the bit in between (WSB), I would argue that while he's hardly a master technician, he does, I always felt, do the basics very well.

Granted you could be forgiven for writing me off as a madman on the evidence of the Thomas fight where Joyce ignored his boxing and simply beat him up.
