No, I can’t take it away from AJ, he’s caught the public imagination. He’s switched an awful lot off after Parker. But, yes, he’s popular now.

And had nothing to do with selling Wembley? Molina before you could get in for £10, in an arena! Suddenly, he’s all that! It works both ways! So you honestly believe that everyone watched it purely because they wanted to see how much Klitschko had left following his fight with Fury? Not because of AJ, the fact it was a really good fight or that it was the biggest ever UK boxing fight in terms of crowd?!
Klitschko fought in stadiums in about half a dozen other fights pre Tyson against fighters far worse than Fury (Mormeck, I think his rematch against Tony Thompson was a stadium fight). Fighting Fury (a young, unbeaten, massive heavy who talked a good game and was massively unpredictable) would have helped the tickets, it was Klitschko who would have driven the bulk of the sales.

This fight doesn't sound very compelling. Sounds more of a snorer...Sexton is far passed his prime, and Fury is a big guy with little power and even littler boxing skills, IMHO. A snorer at best.

Hughie's got decent boxing skills, I'm still not sure he's even worse than cousin Tyson and he dominated Wlad
I thought Hughie dominated Parker as well but he does have to learn to be more offensive and hopefully the pennys dropped after losing that one, a more offensive Hughie will be a very good boxer IMHO
Re: Hughie Fury vs. Sam Sexton - 12 May 2018
Agreed, a more offensive Hughie would do better, but he reminds me of a MLB pitcher who won't pitch to "contact." He's afraid of being hit, as I see it.handsofstone wrote: ↑12 May 2018, 12:40Hughie's got decent boxing skills, I'm still not sure he's even worse than cousin Tyson and he dominated Wlad

Of course Klitschko played a part in selling out Wembley. It was a great fight and was well promoted. It was disagreeing with you saying that it sold because ‘Everyone wanted to see if Wlad had anything left after Tyson ruined him’.mickey1975 wrote: ↑12 May 2018, 12:21And had nothing to do with selling Wembley? Tyson did promote the fight well in the U.K. and the strong number of PPV buys in the U.K. reflected that - again I’m not saying he didn’t play his part. However the amount of people in the stadium in Germany is far more reflective of Klitschko - as I said earlier he’s sold well in stadiums against far lesser fighters than fury. I went to both Klitschko v Haye and Klitschko v fury and I’d say there were comfortably more Haye fans in Hamburg than Fury fans in Düsseldorf.

And if Wlad was such a draw in the U.K., how come the rematch was selling like absolute poo until Fury pulled out?maverick23 wrote: ↑12 May 2018, 13:34Of course Klitschko played a part in selling out Wembley. It’s because the fight was so bad that no-one has ever gone back to rewatch it, which allows this false narrative to prevail.leejonesjnr wrote: ↑12 May 2018, 14:42It cracks me up that this has become a thing that people say and believe
Re: Hughie Fury vs. Sam Sexton - 12 May 2018
Got the strangest feeling this ends up being a really good fight. Hughie knows he needs to be more aggressive after the snoozer with Parker & Sexton must be aware this could be his last real opportunity so will give it a go.
Not saying we'll get another Hagler/ Hearns but still a far better fight than many on here are anticipating.

I think Hughie will win a wide points decision in a stinker.

I was offered a free ticket for tonight, but I just didn't think it was worth the drive. I hope I'm wrong, they are both nice guys, but the PED thing has tarnished Fury for me.oogiebe wrote: ↑12 May 2018, 16:22LMFAO!!! I think the only person saying that was Tyson himself .leejonesjnr wrote: ↑12 May 2018, 14:42It cracks me up that this has become a thing that people say and believe
It was basically a nil nil draw swayed by some better dancing by Tyson .

I just wanted to apologize for doubting your prediction. And admit I was wrong on the ko.Taansend wrote: ↑09 May 2018, 19:34My own view is that Hughie learnt in the loss that he can mix it at top level and we'll see him sit on his punches more.tiny_acres wrote: ↑09 May 2018, 19:14I think Hughie wins comfortably on the scorecards. I just think Hughie is better than people realise (although probably not as good as I think he is)
Re: Hughie Fury vs. Sam Sexton - 12 May 2018
LOL! A lot of honesty here. I personally don't have much of an opinion on Hughie. I think he's a flat fighter. Not much ceiling.Taansend wrote: ↑12 May 2018, 22:24No need to apologise, Mate. Re: Hughie Fury vs. Sam Sexton - 12 May 2018
If Hughie fought like that he would have had Parker's belt no question. It seems his shortcomings have been somewhat addressed. All he needed was to be more offensive, and look at the result- entertaing fight and a KO.
The rest of the undercard was miserable though, one of the worst this year and the TV coverage was amateurish with sound fade, long periods of nothing happening and they had the audacity to repeat a fight already covered on the same broadcast. Hennesy bombs- Fury plugs the holes in a sinking ship

Yes. My whole view is that he has the skills (and some power) but he didn't have the hunger before.tiny_acres wrote: ↑13 May 2018, 01:18He needs a solid win over a contender.Taansend wrote: ↑12 May 2018, 22:24No need to apologise, Mate. After the loss to Parker they are going for the KO more. None of us know if he is good enough but I hope he pushes for the big fights.
Re: Hughie Fury vs. Sam Sexton - 12 May 2018
hughie doesnt even need to go for the ko, he just needs to keep up a half decent work rate with regular power shots mixed in, instead of periodically just air jabbing like vs parker
he threw that fight away, no doubt he had the physical ability to beat him imo

Re: Hughie Fury vs. Sam Sexton - 12 May 2018
Still none the wiser about Hughie's overall potential to be frank.
A decent belt won after the disappointmet and very silly misadventure of fighting Parker, more aggression shown and against a seasoned opponent who wanted to keep his crown?
Or was it a case of Sam having not been entirely relevant/dangerous since the Rogan fights and Hughie would not be given anything like the same time, space against the likes of someone like Joyce.....and despite Joe's inexperience?
Hughie boxes beautifully at times - fast jabs, feints, happy as you like on the back foot - but I am inclined to think that a big, young man with a modicum of hand speed and some decent power will plain fancy it.....and steams right through him.
Whyte and Joyce will respect Hughie's skills....but will ultimately back themselves to pin him in a corner and unload and not allow him to jab and move as he pleases.
