Jaime Munguia - New Kid On The Block

Post by Taansend »

This kid just destroyed Sadam Ali. It did look like a Welter against a Middle though but Jaime is 21 with a 29(25)-0 record & the WBO LM Champ.

If I was Liam Smith I'd stay well away but you never know. Munguia has stopped 19 of his last 20 opponents & the one bloke who did go the distance with him (Johnny Navarrete W UD 10) got stopped in the rematch in 3 rounds

Munguia was fighting at Welter a year ago but he's still growing so we could see him in some interesting bouts over the next few years.

Munguia v Hurd would be fun.

hes one to watch for sure, only 21 but a big powerful guy already who puts his shots together nicely

but i have to say that fight just felt wrong in a way. ridiculous size difference. looked way bigger then fights like khan-canelo and ggg-brook

Or Lomachenko v Linares

But Loma is a one off so it shows how good HE is.

Looking at it objectively, Ali was lucky to have met a shot (in my opinion) Cotto. He's not a top ten Welter let alone Light Middle. Munguia looked very good tonight but we'll see how things pan out (especially when he wouldn't have an size advantage against Hurd). But having a Mexican banger at any weight is ALWAYS a welcome addition.

Plus, you can see his house from my In Laws House

I hope so.

I'm a Canelo fan (I'm a fan of most boxers) but Mexican boxing needs a push after the recent tainted drug results.

Having this humble KO artist who lives 2 hours south of LA can only be great for boxing.

If I was his promoter/manager I'd have him fight in the UK against Smith (money & mandatory) then set his sights on 154 domination.

If he's good enough :D

He did take out the weakest belt holder, so I'm not fully convinced just yet. The way he did it was impressive though.
No interest in a rematch, it was that decisive.
Let's see if he unifys.. It's a stacked division and he is massive :o
I think Brook or Hurd would be stylistically fan friendly. Looking forward to seeing him again!

He did look massive against Ali last night, the 24hr weigh in must of helped Munguia, I was impressed with his speed and accuracy as well. Smith would probably be a bit sterner stuff than Ali, and Munguia hasn't been tested around the chin too much let.
Saying that Smith must of been gutted watching it last night, as Ali looked weak from the get go, probably Smiths best chance to of got a world title again. With Hurd and Charlo holding the other titles, it's a tough division.

Smith won't want any piece of Munguia. If he wants an 'easy' title, he's gonna have to wait a while now.

Canelo also started around 147..
these Mexicans start boxing at a really young age and grow quite fast. He could probably still drop down to 147 and fight those guys.

Just watched this again. This guy Munguia looks like a terrific fighter. Hard to believe he is only 21. Forget about his power, which is clearly elite. His punch selection, variety and ring IQ looks really good. They can take their time with him and develop further but to be honest, I give him a real chance with anyone at 154 right now.
