Eubank replaces Groves in final

Post by Nightmare Roy »

A lot of newspapers are reporting it's a done deal, real shame for Groves, hopefully he gets a shot against the winner next.

I always thought it was early after a bad dislocation, taking on and beating the eventual winner later in the year will take the shine off it for me.

What a joke.

Urgh I can just imagine the loathsome Eubanks if Junior wins. Claiming to be the best in the world and other nonsense. They were bad enough with the IBO.

Here's hoping Callum cleans his clock.

It’s tough to make tournaments like this work logistically.
The Super 6 main criticism was the duration, taking 2 years to conclude so I can see why the WBSS wants to keep the timeframe in order, especially as it wants to be an ongoing series.
It will be a real shame if the winner of the SM tournament doesn’t have even one of the world titles at the end. (WBC Diamond is a trophy rather than a championship, like a high level version of the Challenge belts)

It's understandable and will make for a great fight.

Smith is taking a hiding for me.

If eubank is replacing groves, then Smith will win with ease.

Makes the tournament a waste. Maybe they can fight for the vacant IBO belt. :|

That's a terrible business decision that irreparably damages the credibility of the WBSS product now and in the future.

It smacks of bias too. Why isn't Braehmer getting the chance? If Braehmer had lost to Groves and Eubank had dropped out of the Smith semi do you think Jürgen would have got the offer?

Ryder would have been better. Atleast he's not a dickhead coming off a loss.

He deserves it as much as Smith.

This is exactly why boxing tournaments never really work properly, shame.

The WBSS organisers are in a very difficult situation - either keep postponing the final (in which case the whole thing loses momentum and might not ever take place if Groves doesn’t recover properly), or allow a substitute to take Groves’s place (which no-one will ever be happy with). Sucks either way.

Neither do I. It’s amazing how overrated Eubank still is by many.

If Smith uses his range properly he’ll stop Eubank late or win comfortably on points. Eubank is very, very ordinary

What's Callum Smith done to be rated so highly?

Just because Groves beat Eubank fairly comfortably, it doesn't mean that Smith will be able to do something similar.

Eubank has fought at a significantly higher level than Smith and I don't see an easy win for Smith at all.

I think you're agreeing with me.

Read what Mr Horse has replied too. I see Smith winning with ease. He doesn't see it that way.

Quite looking forward to Smith demolishing Eubank should be entertaining while it lasts. Smith is massive at the weight it's a bit of a mismatch if you ask me.

Surely you just postpone the final? Essentially forget the rest of the tournament that has gone before and imagine Groves and Smith had signed to fight each other. If that happened outside a tournament and one became injured you have the fight at a later date.

I don't understand the reticence of moving the date of the final.

Why is everyone sucking Smith's willy in this thread?

He's just a big bloke. He's not proven at all at the top level.

and Eubank is a smaller bloke not proven at top level

given that neithr are exactly Lomachenko in the skill category (mind you at least Smith knows how to throw a jab) its a decent prediction to say the great big stiff oaf will overcome the smaller stiff, useless, no-head-movement, no-jab, oaf.
