That's a terrible business decision that irreparably damages the credibility of the WBSS product now and in the future.
It smacks of bias too. Why isn't Braehmer getting the chance? If Braehmer had lost to Groves and Eubank had dropped out of the Smith semi do you think Jürgen would have got the offer?
The damage to credibility would be sealed by Smith winning the whole thing by beating Skoglund, a last minute kickboxer replacement, and a fighter who was well beaten in the other semi.
At least in other tournaments of a similar nature the winners had to go through a decent run of opponents.

Why is everyone sucking Smith's willy in this thread?
He's just a big bloke. He's not proven at all at the top level.
and Eubank is a smaller bloke not proven at top level
given that neithr are exactly Lomachenko in the skill category (mind you at least Smith knows how to throw a jab) its a decent prediction to say the great big stiff oaf will overcome the smaller stiff, useless, no-head-movement, no-jab, oaf.
Eubank is arguably more proven - but proven that he's definitely not top level.

Eubank is getting underrated now. Groves made him look very basic, but I doubt that Smith will do anything similar against him.
Smith had an easy run to the final and doesn't deserve to be getting all this hype on the forum.

i don't think its hyping him to say he's about as crap as Eubank, just a bit bigger

What a joke.
Urgh I can just imagine the loathsome Eubanks if Junior wins. Claiming to be the best in the world and other nonsense. They were bad enough with the IBO.
Here's hoping Callum cleans his clock.
On the money.
We're going to get the 'game changer' crap coming out of Sr's mouth again if Jr wins.
If one boxer doesnt turn up for thr final the other one that got to the final legit should be declared the winner via walkover. Why the hell should a loser go on to most likely win the final and reap the rewards.
The issue is that the event organiser has a lot of money to make to doesnt give a hoot who wins. Eubank winning is a joke.
Eubank is a great replacement, he will generate a lot of interest and make it a great fight, when has he ever been in a bad fight?
Also he will have learned a lot against Groves too.
fizzjambo wrote: ↑13 May 2018, 07:34Neither do I. It’s amazing how overrated Eubank still is by many.
If Smith uses his range properly he’ll stop Eubank late or win comfortably on points. Eubank is very, very ordinary
What's Callum Smith done to be rated so highly?
Just because Groves beat Eubank fairly comfortably, it doesn't mean that Smith will be able to do something similar.
Eubank has fought at a significantly higher level than Smith and I don't see an easy win for Smith at all.
Whose Eubank fought who is truly top level? No one. He’s had glaring deficiencies since day one that he’s never resolved and he wouldn’t know how to close distance properly against a taller fighter if he kept going for another ten years. Smith hasn’t done anything special but he should win this handily enough

i agree. i actually rate smith but it would be a laughable run of opponents to win a major tournament like this that is trying to bring the top guys together

Yeah even groves went on the run vs eubank. He didn't fight eubank the same way he fought froch. If eubank was leaping in to groves shots to land his own, I don't think its anywhere near a given that smith KOs him as some suggest

He didn’t go in the run, he boxed to a plan - and it worked.
Why would he use the same tactics he used for Froch against other opponents?
This shouldn’t be a criticism, it should be a positive.

for me each wbss has to be taken on its own. there is no one wbss 'quality', which in a way i guess could hurt the image if the point was to make it into a series of tournmanets where you know just by the wbss name that each will be excellent.
the cruiser tournament was great but smw not so much, although groves-eubank was still a big fight. the wbss at bantam looks like its going to be excellent too, even though smw wasnt.

Just making a point about eubanks toughness. Eubank has never been "out manned" in a fight. Even when he's lost it looked like he was the tougher guy in there. So I don't get the idea that smith will steamroll him easily
jamamb wrote: ↑13 May 2018, 16:21
smths way bgger then jr. not sure how much jr can outman/overpower him.
I think Smith walks him down. Pushed onto the back foot Eubanks deficiencies in footwork will be shown in glaring fashion, plus lack of overall skills.
