IF wbss is for fringe heavyweights, who do you want to see?

Post by joshj909 »

NOT CONFIRMED, ONLY SPECULATING!!!

One of the rumours out there is that the third weightclass for next season's wbss will be fringe heavyweights. Who would you want to see involved? (i couldn't see a thread on this)

It's probably safe to assume that the title-holders, upcoming challengers, and those fighting for mandatories wont be in the tournament IF it is heavyweight.

There are some fairly inactive fringe heavyweights and a few that have clung on to the 0's by avoiding decent matchups, which is why i think it makes a fringe heavyweight tournament interesting here.

Personally i'd like to see Kownacki, Ruiz jr, Martin, Kuzmin, Kabayel, Zhilei Zhang, Schwarz, Jennings.

Maybe Joyce, H Fury, or Hrgovic?

thoughts?

Rumours have it that the other two divisions (not yet declared) are Light Welterweight and Light Heavyweight.

"For those asking, Kovalev fighting August 4th almost certainly rules him out of a potential WBSS tournament. However there are rumours that the third weight class is actually a fringe heavyweight tournament."

From Michael Benson on the 12th. (I'm not sure how to share the tweet on here)

140 is likely going to be announced.

The 3rd has been rumoured to be 175, 200 has been mentioned again.. and yeh, I heard about fringe heavyweights.

Thing with HW's there's loads of fights to be made. But they hardly fight each other.

To answer the OP question, I'd like to see Amir Mansour in there.

Do you think Mansour has enough left in the tank to fight 3 times in a year against fairly high level opposition? (if he lasted that long)
He'd be a good level opponent to test some of those that haven't been tested yet

He's not active enough. He's tough though, he would give his opponents a good fight I think.

He's 44, this would be his chance to throw his name in there.

Tons you could include: Miller, Hughie, Hammer, Kownacki, Ruiz Jr, Kabayel, Breazeale, Jennings, Chisora, Otto Wallin, Dimitrenko, Szpilka.

That can decrease the number of contenders, so the idea doesn't sound good for the today's situation.

I thought that was the Cruiserweights tournament?...

Nobody wants to see flabby and out-of-shape heavyweights.

Joyce, Zhang, Teper and Junior Fa :yay:

Hardcore Mansour is too old now, it wouldn't be fair on the guy.

Chisora, Duhaupas, Takam, Ruiz, Helenius, Hammer, Mansour, Charr... All these fighters are fringe contenders & the winner would be the WBA regular champion which could set up A WBA title shot. I don't see Miller, Parker,Povetkin, The Furys, Wilder, Joshua, Breazeale, Pulev or Whyte fighting in this tourney because they are all near the top of the food chain...

A lot of the guys that you can plausibly recycle are already too old to last a 3-round tournament. Stiverne is 39, Wach is 38, Mansour is 45, Washington is 36, Duhaupas is 37, Adamek is 41, etc. However, I might do something like this, hoping that Kabayel or Ruiz Jr. emerges as a super contender.

German bracket:
Christian Hammer
Alexander Dimitrenko

Agit Kabayel
Erkan Teper

American bracket:
Andy Ruiz Jr.
Bermane Stiverne

Charles Martin
Bryant Jennings
