Has Danny Williams made the right decision?

Post by punchers chance »

According to reports he could have stepped up to fight Vidoz or kept the rematch date with Skelton but not taken both fights.

He could earn twice as much for the Skelton fight and has chosen to stick with that.

I think he’s right. His next foray above domestic level will probably be his final fling and should he get past Skelton he may well get a better payday for someone’s voluntary defence.

Frank will tell you he made the right decision. Probably financially it was the right decision also but not a great career decision.

Lets face it, I can hardly see FW getting him a title shot if he beats Skelton again. As a boxing fan, I am glad he is fighting Skelton again. Thought the first was bloody ugly but compeling viewing!

He has made the right decision.

Williams has found his level & Skelton is a great opponent for him.

Hes made a great decision. He'll get more money, put on another quality fight - and it was 1 of the better fights the HW division has to offer. And he should win. Williams can improve Skeleton probably can't improve on his last effort. So he can fight Vidoz when hes done and if he wins that 1 (which he should do ) a title shot may be on the cards. And Danny has a shot against any of the bogus title holders out there.

Do you really think Danny has a shot against the current titleholders? I think two years ago he would have done, but now he looks like damaged goods. allegedly told him to retire after the pounding from Vitali and I think that fight took a lot out of him.

Do you believe that Danny has taken the fight with Skelton becuase he has to prove he's the better man, i know Danny got the verdict last time but did he win the fight (i personally felt Skelton won).

One fight can;t really say he's damaged goods yet and Vitali was the champ after all and he wasn't near ready enough for it.

I'd rather see Danny beat Vidoz, Skelton and Warren should clearly know why Skelton lost.

I see it as a backward step myself. He could fight Skelton again for good money even if he lost to Vidoz.

Williams does have a shot against at least 1/2 of the belt holders.

Klitschko: Has a fragile chin and Danny has a bit of a thump in him. You'd favour Klitschko but Danny would have a punchers chance.

Lyakhovich: KOed by Maurice Harris, would of only drawn with Sedreck Fields if he wasn't deducted 2 points, Guinn pushed him close and Brewster had him on the floor. I'd fancy Danny with a chance in this one, he's definitely better than Harris and Fields.

Valuev: He's limited and has struggled with opponents around Danny's level in the past.

The only one I'd call a cert to beat Williams is Rahman.

Williams has no chance against any of the belt holders now. He is past his best and way overweight. Lets not forget he only narrowly edged out the mauling Skelton and barely got by a gunshy Audley Harrison. Come on lets not forget the level Williams is struggling to look good at is domestic level and not dress it up as anything else. Wlad Klitschko would knock the living daylights out of him.

Good decision, he knows what he is capable. he has domestic level and could make his money over there. nobody gives him tha money on the mainland and he would lose vs Vidoz like Hoffmann and Sprott did. He could make another Harrison fight and then retire or he would end like Julius Francis.

Having watched Vidoz lately i would give Danny a fair chance of beating him, the Italian is no world beater. I would have preferred Williams fight Vidoz and provided he beat him which i think he would then face Skelton. Obviously the Skelton match offers more money but the European title would be a better reward IMO especially in his quest of better world ratings.

Williams would lose vs the first serious contender like he did vs Sam and Williams is not getting better and younger. Virchis will beat Vidoz for the EBU title.

Not trying to keep disagreeing with you on purpose Bubi but i don't see Virchis beating Vidoz, Virchis is pretty poor although he did take Chagaev to a majority decision. I didn't see that fight (have highlights on a disk somewhere) but Joachim Jacobsen scored it a draw and he is a very biased judge. Anyone see this fight?

Even Sprott beat Virchis Bubi!

These Euro Heavyweights are overated and are only doing well because it's a weaker era. I give Danny a chance against most of them except Wlad unless he stunned him like fat Sanders.

He seems positive since Vitali beat him so badly.

Nickd you don't seriously think Valuev would have an easy night against Williams do you? Valuev was even bullied by Etienne until he hit him in the back of the head.

Some people actually made the same argument when Williams fought Vitali.
Williams has a big punch and when he lands it will reopen Vitali's cuts.... blah blah blah.

Wlad recovered from some big shots by Samuel Peter and went on to win and got up off the floor several times after taking huge flush shots from Corrie Sanders who hits harder than Williams ever did.

If Danny Williams fought today's Vladamir who showed greatly improved technique in his last fight with Byrd, it would similar to the fight he had with Vitali only it would end quicker.

Cuts and chin are two very different things and Vitali had an iron chin compared to Wlads. Wlad fought crap against Peter. Any decent shot that Peter landed floored Wlad. Anyone who has a punch is in with a chance with Wlad. Vitali is also superior to Wlad in my view and I feel most heavyweights would of taken that beating from him that Williams took save a couple.
