Efe Ajagba: Where is he?

Post by oogiebe »

Anyone have any info on Efe Ajagba's future? Seems to me as a youngster, he should be more active.

he looks ok.

quite upright...reminds me of Charles Martin

unlike Martin and Jennings he is fighting the average amount, I guess....which is rarely.

what raised the eyebrows about martin and Jennings was the incredibly busy start they both had. packing in a huge number of fights.

Dont think there's any reason to worry. HWs tend to be less active than other weights, even as prospects. Here's how active the top HW prospects have been so far as pros (least active to most active):

Tony Yoka 4 bouts in 12 months

Efe Ajagba 4 bouts in 10 months

Filip Hrgovic 4 bouts in 8 months

Vladislav Sirenko 6 bouts in 12 months

Ivan Dychko 5 bouts in 8 months

Daniel Dubois 7 bouts in 13 months

Joe Joyce 4 bouts in 7 months

Notice that the busiest guy is Joe Joyce who is by far the oldest at 32, so he needs to be busy!!

Prospects should be more like Dubois, 1 bout every 2 months. I'm not worried (lol), but I'm hungry to see these guys (nice list btw, although I think you left out a couple of names) in action.

Even Dubois is relatively inactive compared to former amateur HW stars of the past. Here's a few of the historic HW greats who were amateur stars before turning pro, listed with the number of pro fights in their first 12 months:

Foreman 20
Tyson 18
Wlad 13
Lennox 12
Frazier 11
Ali 9

ACTIVE
Joshua 8
Povetkin 8
Wilder 7

Today's HW prospects (at least those who were ex-amateur stars) are just not as busy as their historic counterparts.

FightNews.com says he won again last night:

https://fightnews.com/ex-champ-mendez-l ... more-22383
2016 Olympian heavyweight Efe Ajagba (5-0, 5 KOs) brutally laid out Dell Long (5-3-2, 3 KOs) in just 35 seconds. A crushing right ended it.

There are less boxers around today so they all have less fights.

Boxers used to have 30/40 fights before challenging for a title.

Now they're retired before that.

No point comparing.

Why not compare eras? The reduced number of active boxers and reduced numbers of bouts needed to get world title shots didnt happen overnight, it was a gradual process. :OhYes:

And? No point comparing the amount of bouts a fighter had 50 years ago to now. We all know they fought more often then.

If it bothers you that much then spare yourself the agony of reading my comments.

There is no point in you whining about me comparing eras because your criticism will literally have NO affect on what I post in the future. Feel free to dispute or debate any of my facts but saying my comparisons are pointless is equally pointless if not more so.

Here's some video of Ajagba's KOs, including a few pro & amateur bouts and his most recent KO win last Saturday.
