He looks like it yes. He doesn’t fight like it though, he can really punch.
David Price To Return on 27 July 2018
Re: David Price To Return on 27 July 2018
too long a layoff for a bloke that old IMHO.
Re: David Price To Return on 27 July 2018
I’m not sure, I think he is heavy handed enough but nothing special at European level in that regard. Very few heavyweights don’t have decent power.
I know Teper was doped up to hell but he just walked through Price. Very, very worrying for me
Re: David Price To Return on 27 July 2018
I'd say we have a lot of folks, including myself, concerned for Price's well-being.
Re: David Price To Return on 27 July 2018
you shouldve seen him ice rogan and sprott, rogan was prob out of it worse then price
Re: David Price To Return on 27 July 2018
I did. The point is Rogan and Sprott were never European level and both were done when they got in the ring with Teper. Teper is nowt special, a very ordinary Euro champ at best. Price was bulldozed by him.
IMO Povetkin is ready to go as well. He’s looked very ordinary in his last couple of outings, if he gets in the ring with Joshua I think he’ll get put away comprehensively. I don’t think Prices performance against him is quite what everyone is making out.
It’s Prices decision if he wants to go on but he’s an accident waiting to happen now. When was his last decent win? He either beats knock over jobs or gets iced.
He seems a nice bloke, I’ve not interest in seeing him (or anyone else) get hurt

Made me feel a bit tense last night when Coldwell and Price were in the post fight chat huddle together
Re: David Price To Return on 27 July 2018
Other than the thunderous left hook at the end of the third, what did Price actually do against Povetkin to suggest he can compete anywhere near the top level?

Other than a left hook and a straight right what did Povetkin actually do etc?
I’m firmly in the ‘I’d like Price to retire’ side of the debate but staying competitive until you get the chance to knock someone out goes a long way in the heavyweight division.
Price was nice and composed and defending very nicely whilst looking for his opportunities in that contest.

I agree, it's strange after so many big defeats but i thought Price looked at least as good as I have seen him and probably much better given the level of opposition. Like you say the main difference is he seemed much more composed and much more relaxed, which seems a bit bizarre given he was facing Povetkin and not Teper or other lower-level guys he's looked so tentative against.leejonesjnr wrote: ↑06 May 2018, 10:12Other than a left hook and a straight right what did Povetkin actually do etc?

Point of reference. IT was like Morrison Mercer. Tommy looked good until BAM...BA BA BA BOOM! Seriously though it's like the man falling out the window. At each floor he can be heard to say, "So far, So good."Counter-puncher wrote: ↑06 May 2018, 10:17I agree, it's strange after so many big defeats but i thought Price looked at least as good as I have seen him and probably much better given the level of opposition. Re: David Price To Return on 27 July 2018
with the moments hes had with povetkin, thompson, and hammer im cant say that i wouldnt give him a good chance from lower ebu level and down. and his power gives him the chance to have moments above that. i think if he finds a new level and doestn rush to the levels hes already lost at, he can rebuild and we may see that what he has is enough to even pick up the british again or the ebu if he can get fights with the right opponents, like the type kaybayel won his ebu from
btw there are loads of guys who take more punishment and losses and struggles, and do it at a lower level. but they arent being compared to some major initial hype, so they get judged less harshly. the key is finding the right level. most fighters will have little success in winning at the levels price has lost at. you have to be world class or close to it to be a level above price, thompson, etc
if he can find his level, he can do well. i think that level is probably lower ebu and down.

It was a poor showing from Povetkin, but he still looked the far superior boxer throughout and was clearly winning the fight. Price looked robotic and scared to me.leejonesjnr wrote: ↑06 May 2018, 10:12Other than a left hook and a straight right what did Povetkin actually do etc?

Re: David Price To Return on 27 July 2018
Great point. So many we SHOULD be concerned with but we don't because they are low-level journeymen or less. They are the blokes that HAVE TO WORK for a living, and to a lesser extent make the sweet science work. These days they are the only ones that some fighters will fight. They provide the stepping stones of world champions. Some fighters have to be saved from themselves , thats why there fighters , They just love to fight and can't see or comprhend how far they have dropped , There bracve but quite often silly they just don't know when to stop , Its been said on here , just let him drop a level and he'll be ok , Fair enough but he can drop and drop and drop , till he's fighting tramps round the back of your local pub for a fiver .
Its time for the man to say , you know what, i've had a great carreer, i give it my best , i mixed it with the best , but now , i'm finished , walk away , and with a bit of luck go pass his knoledge of the game on to kids and become a trainer , hopefully has good and succesful a trainer has he was a boxer ,, Its time to finish

Re: David Price To Return on 27 July 2018
From Price's perspective it's easy to see why he'd carry on. It was a fairly respectable showing against Povetkin and I think he came out of the fight with his reputation enhanced despite being brutally KO'd.
At the end of the day, even at domestic level, heavyweights are paid pretty well and he'll look at the landscape and see that there are some potentially lucrative fights out there for him. Just a few names that come to mind are: Tyson Fury, Chisora, even Haye if he decides to carry on, the winner or loser of Sexton v Fury. All of these are viable fights and in the case of the first 3 potentially lucrative ones.
With Price, he'll also always think he's only one shot away from a million pound payday. If he'd have got Povetkin out of there I'm sure Hearn would have been falling over himself to make the AJ fight.

So it does.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑17 May 2018, 07:15 It says live on IFL. Like his fight vs. Soklowski, it will be on either MTK/IFL youtube channel.
I must be going blind. Can't think what's caused that.
Re: David Price To Return on 27 July 2018
The biggest problem Price has got is that his eyes are too close together and his ears are too big - look at his photo, he looks like a giant Danger Mouse.
As a result, he has very limited peripheral vision and he just can't see the punches coming.
Shame really.
