David Benavidez vs. Matt Korobov in Play For Garcia-Easter

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

According to multiple sources in Mexico, WBC super middleweight champion David Benavidez (20-0, 17 KOs) will make the next defense of his title against Matt Korobov (28-1, 14 KOs) of Russia in July 28.

The contest would be part of the Showtime televised undercard to the planned lightweight unification between Mikey Garcia and Robert Easter, which would take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

While Benavidez had very little amateur experience when he turned pro, Korobov (28-1, 14 KOs) was a very decorated amateur with a record of 300-12.

In the amateurs, Korobov was one of the toughest guys to beat in the international tournaments. He defeated fighters such as Oleksandr Usyk, Yordanis Despaigne, Daniel Jacobs, Sergiy Derevyanchenko and Alfonso Blanco.

He took part in the 2008 Summer Olympics and was upset in his second bout by Bakhtiyar Artayev.

As a pro, Korobov had a solid, which included a dominating decision win over current IBF super middleweight champion Jose Uzcategui in June of 2014.

Korobov would lose his next fight, a sixth round stoppage at the hands of Andy Lee. The Russian fighter was ahead on all three scorecards when he got caught and stopped.

He was promoted for most of his career by Top Rank, but the two sides parted ways a few fights back.

Since his defeat to Lee, he's won four fights in a row - including a stay-busy decision win over Jonathan Batista back in March.

Korobov fought in March 2018 in an 6-rounder. Before that, he last fought November 2016, that was an 8-rounder and prior to that he fought Brian Vera in June 2016 in an 8 rounder.

Don't know why he's still ranked..

This is chance for Korobov to get a title. Benavidez is more beatable compared to Geogre Groves or Gilberto Ramirez. STill he will be an underdog :box: :box: :box:

Hopefully, a title fight will be good enough motivation for Korobov to prepare well. That is his last chance to start earning some decent money. I will cheer for the young guy, but would like to see him tested by Korobov.

Korobov has an amateur pedigree that Benavidez doesn't have so he may be able to trouble him, but I think Benavidez is gonna be too quick, and too strong for him.

Benavidez clearly is more on the ball these days, and putting more effort into his career so I think he's got that going for him in this matchup.

Korobov probably has enough wrinkles to his game to give Benavidez problems that he possibly hasn't encountered yet though.

Really good fight. That is if Korobov has anything at all left. Such a waste of talent. Korobov had an amazing amateur style. He was hurting dudes and schooling them.

no idea why ppl keep rating korobov

turned to jelly in his big moment by andy lee, fighting cans since, and 35. now he gets a smw title shot and will be easily beaten up by a super hyped fighter who hasnt fought a top 10 opponent

btw i remember before when korobov came up some fool here was laughably trying to hype derrick edwards to make him a good win for korobov. in the same thread they were calling eric skoglund a joke, obv unaware that he easily beat edwards wo getting nearly kod like korobov almost was

i rate ppl as boxers, not as nationalities , you just cant stand fair opinions on boxers from certain areas

lets just make it simple

what happenened in korobovs big title fight vs lee?

what is his best win in the last 3 years?

what has he done at smw?

how old is he?

mat was an okay mw but he shouldnt be rated much at smw at all. this is an easy fight for dave

He won every round until he got caught with a big shot, and subsequently stopped.

As for what's he done at Super Middleweight...nada
