Re: Troy Waters
Very sad news one of the fighting Waters brothers has departed.
RIP champ. You gave us a lot of joy.

Re: Troy Waters
An incredible fighter. Saw Troy take apart a British fighter without breaking sweat in about 1987 for the Commonwealth title when it still meant something. I knew then he'd do well for himself. He was also a great ambassador for the sport, showing that not all boxers are inarticulate thugs. RIP champ
Re: Troy Waters
Really sad news. Will always remember the war with Norris, but he had so many other great bouts. A top talent. RIP.
Re: Troy Waters
It was tragic how the three Waters boys had their carers warped by their loyalty to their obsessive father.
Rest in peace, Troy.

Not just their careers, their lives!

So true. Those of us old enough to remember the paradox that was Ces Waters, the pathological taskmaster, tormentor, controller yet ultimate motivator for his three sons.
The whole controversy around the Damon Cooper/Dean Waters/Alan Hall murder supposedly upon the orders of Ces, was a tragic insight into not only a potentially dysfunctional boxing family and dynasty but also the systematic dysfunction rampant in certain regional hotspots.
I still think Troy's fight with Norris is a classic, and showed the potential talent he possessed, that if under better conditions might have been more successful. But...who really can say for sure?

Correct. Troy has surviving brothers Dean and Guy, and his father was Cec.
