Orlando Salido Arrested, Alleged To Have Stolen 16 Cans of Beer

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

According to multiple reports in Mexico, former world champion Orlando "El Siri" Salido was arrested earlier today in his native Ciudad Obregón, Sonora.

Salido, who is candidate for local deputy for District XVI of Ciudad Obregon, was arrested this morning for allegedly taking 16 cans of beer from a convenience store.

According to information from the Municipal Police that was provided to El Universal, the boxer was arrested shortly before 7:00 am, when he was reported for taking alcoholic beverages without paying.

An employee of the store located in the Cortinas neighborhood, informed the boxer, who was accompanied by three other men, that beer could be sold until 8:00 a.m.

Ignoring the employee, the four of them walked out with the beers.

The police were called and the boxer was arrested and taken to the police headquarters located at 300 and Jalisco streets, where he left around 11:30 am after paying a bail of 800 pesos (around $41).

Not Salido's first brush with the law in recent months.

Earlier this year, it was reported that Salido was arrested on December 31 after becoming involved in a physical altercation at a bar in downtown Sonora.

It sounds as though Salido either has alcohol dependency problems or is broke.

It's probably the former rather than the latter, since it doesn't make sense to be willing to risk getting locked up to simply avoid paying for beer.

So perhaps the booze has clouded his mind. I guess we've all made alcohol-fuelled mistakes at some point during our lifetimes and I hope this is simply a one-off or at least a rarity for Salido.

I wonder if this will hurt Salido's campaign for law enforcement deputy.

Of course in Mexico, the public is accustomed to the fact that most police and law enforcement officials are simply crooks with badges.

Salido now claims that he was a victim of political "dirty tricks" by
opponents in the race for law enforcement deputy.

It seems that he doesn't really deny it, but a spokesman for Siri insists that crimes like this happen all the time and receive no publicity.

Political opponents seized on a "misunderstanding" to damage Salido's chances of winning the race.

Arent you living in the Balkans? As someone who lives 8 miles from the Mexican border, take my word...it's NOT a joke/fake news.

I figured as soon as I saw the topic title that it happened in Mexico. Not that it couldnt happen here in the US: It's just that Salido is not well enough known in the US to make the news for shoplifting.

Poor Siri. It was 7 a.m. and he couldn't wait until 8 to purchase the cerveza.

I'm sure that if he had just thrown the money at the cashier, it would have been acceptable, given Salido's hometown celebrity.

His bail of about $40 was quite a bit more than the cost of the beers.

Sad, very, very sad. The prominent champion (or ex-champion, the same) is expected to be the best role-model for young people.
Salido is the wrong role-model, obviously (if this news is true).................

That's the problem, his celebrity just wasn't big enough for him to get them 'on the house' or in exchange for an autograph.

Could be the best thing that's happened to him.

Siri probably sat around and drank a few cervezas with the policia before they let him go.

I've had a few run-ins with Mexican police over the years. They're always very accommodating as long as you "share" with them.
