Re: HW Fights I'd like to see now
Gosh, I wish all of those slackers would go out and fight. It seems like HW protocol is 5-6 fights a year until you get to 14-20 fights and then hit the buffet for 9 months of the year.
Re: HW Fights I'd like to see now
Those would be some great fights.
That being said... I would still prefer to see those up and comer fight against some better known opponents. Gatekeeper types... Like Chisora, Hammer, Rudenko, Duhaupas, Teper, Dimitrenko and Washington.
Those types of fights would tell us lot more about the prospects.
What did we learn from Wallin vs Granat fight?
Re: HW Fights I'd like to see now
There are alot of 1's and 2's to be handed out to inactive record padders that are ranked by the abc orgs or on here at heavyweight.
Notably Zhang, Zhang, Trevor Bryan, Fujimoto, Negron, Jean Pierre Augustin, LaRon Mitchell, Guillermo Jones.
Would like to see some of those names you mentioned against these guys as they probably have less potential to challenge in the future and can move them up the rankings.

One was simply not good. But they fought during the early stages of their career. Who knows, Granat might become good all of a sudden in a few years.. But having these fights early in their careers, it eliminates those 'prospects' ..

Re: HW Fights I'd like to see now
Absolutely.
Winners then fight each other.
Whoever comes out on top fights the winner of Joshua v Wilder.
The up and comers should fight each other to sort out the wheat from the chaff.
Unfortunately none of this is likely to happen. If it did though it would be a huge boost for the sport.

Yep, I like both of those. But right now I am really focussed on Joshua-Wilder.
Re: HW Fights I'd like to see now
I think Dominick Breazeale is criminally overrated, so I wouldn't mind Parker - Breazeale.
Charles Martin has never really done anything legit, so I'll take Takam - Martin.
Junlong Zhang hasn't done anything by age 36, so I'd be down for Teper - Zhang.
Eric Molina has been badly, consistently overrated, so I'd take Kuzmin - Molina.
Hughie Fury is obviously good, and needs a solid but guaranteed win, so Hughie - Dimitrenko / Adamek / Stiverne

Re: HW Fights I'd like to see now
I think the fighter who's most likely to step up his level of opposition & meet some fringe contenders & contenders soon is Joe Joyce. At 4 - 0 he's already won the Commonwealth title & is on the fast track toward becoming a contender. His people have been trying to get Chisora to sign to fight him but have thus far been unsuccessful in doing so.
If they can't get Chisora then maybe somebody like a Christian Hammer or a Carlos Takam would be available for the right purse. Judging by what I've seen of him thus far he's ready for either of them.

Oscar Rivas v. Joe Joyce - either Joyce by wide UD/late TKO or Rivas by big KO
Agit Kabayel v. Simon Kean - Kabayel by late TKO
Daniel Dubois v. Tom Schwarz - Dubois by early KO
Filip Hrgovic v. Efe Ajagba - Hrgovic by UD
Izuagbe Ugonoh v. Petar Milas - Ugonoh by TKO
Re: HW Fights I'd like to see now
Well we learned who was the best heavyweight in Sweden so that's something. All of those 5 fights Oogie mentioned are good fights, but they are a bit random. I mean you can shuffle those ten names, and pick them out of a hat in pairs, and chances are you'd still get 5 interesting fights.Heretic wrote: ↑18 May 2018, 03:15Those would be some great fights.

What did we learn from Wallin vs Granat fight?![]()
To me the Wallin v Granat fight was not only a good match crying out to be made, but relevant in that it establishes superiority in a local rivalry.
So here is my offering, a selection of heavyweight fights which I consider to be logical and relevant to their locale, rather than simply interesting match ups that might only have any chance of occurring as a title eliminator.
Carlos Takam v Johann Duhaupas (winner to fight Tony Yoka )
Michael Wallisch v Tom Schwarz (German hwt title)
Alexandr Povetkin v Sergei Kuzmin
Dillian Whyte v Joe Joyce
Nathan Gorman v Daniel Dubois
Zhang Jun Long v Zhang Zhi Lei
Erkan Teper v Umut Camkiran
Efe Ajagba v Onoriode Ehwarieme (or either v Martin Bakole Ilunga)
Niall Kennedy v Con Sheehan.
Vladislav Sirenko v Oleksandr Zakhozhyi
Dempsey McKean v Willis Meehan
Evgeny Romanov v Rostislav Pletchko
Trey Lippe Morrison v Trevor Bryan
I'll stop now while some of you are still awake. There must be many thousands of fascinating random matchups that could be made ... and probably a few hundred logical ones too.

Some good fights on your list too. Some mismatches in there too
Some of the people on the list like the Zhangs and Wallisch seem to never step up the competition. That's pretty weird. Are they trying to coast into title matches with only records that look good to casuals? Wlad fought some of those so it might even work if Joshua stays at the top long enough.
Sirenko is interesting one. Way too early to tell how he is going to do when facing someone who can actually box but he is on my to watch list
Re: HW Fights I'd like to see now
I say 'why not' to the fights you listed. I agree I could have 'mixed & matched' my 'card.' Shows that most of those fighters are or will be banging on the door, so to speak.candyslim wrote: ↑19 May 2018, 17:06Well we learned who was the best heavyweight in Sweden so that's something. Re: HW Fights I'd like to see now
While Jorce certainly does lack much in the way of pro experience he's shown me enough with his natural physical gifts & raw talent to get me to believe that he's got enough to beat Takam. Obviously, it would be a very big step up in class but his people are convinced that he's ready for the next level & I think he showed as much by his dismantling of the experienced Commonwealth titlist Lenroy Thomas.dagilechia wrote: ↑19 May 2018, 07:55i think Takam beats Joyce, especially at this point, but i would like to see itsweetviolenturge wrote: ↑19 May 2018, 01:44 I think the fighter who's most likely to step up his level of opposition & meet some fringe contenders & contenders soon is Joe Joyce. Re: HW Fights I'd like to see now
Ideally though, if I were in charge of his career I'd pick Christian Hammer as his next opponent. Hammer wouldn't be a real threat to upset the apple cart but he's good enough & durable enough to give Joyce a few quality rounds & it would give folks a point of reference as he's taken Tyson Fury deep into their fight & gone the full limit with Povetkin. So, if Joyce can take Hammer out earlier than Fury did then it will be saying something. Then, Takam would be a good opponent one or two fights father down the line.
Re: HW Fights I'd like to see now
I'm interested to know which ones you consider mismatches. I suppose the most obvious would be Povetkin v Kuzmin and I don't believe Kuzmin would be much of a challenge for a prime Povetkin. I do strongly suspect though, that at 38 Sasha's powers are on the wane, and I would expect Kuzmin to offer more of a threat than Price, Hammer, or Rudenko.Heretic wrote: ↑20 May 2018, 15:42You have good point about the regional fights.candyslim wrote: ↑19 May 2018, 17:06Well we learned who was the best heavyweight in Sweden so that's something. Another maybe Whyte v Joyce based on the fact Joyce has only 4 pro fights under his belt. That fourth win would have been over Chisora rather than Thomas had it not been that, I think Dereck decided he was washing his hair that day or something. Joyce is a vastly experienced amateur and has fought the likes of Usyk in WSB so that 'only four pro fights' angle is more than a little misleading. If I was Whyte I would keep well clear.
Ehwarieme didn't impress me much having watched him and I picked him against Ajagba mainly because they are both Nigerian IIRC, but I think Ajagba v Ilunga would probably be more competitive.
After that I'm struggling (for possible mismatches). One of those matches I mentioned which I find most appealing is Romanov v Pletchko. Romanov is only 6 feet and would be conceding about 4 inches in height, but he has a successful amateur career behind him and should present Pletchko with many more problems than his previous opponents, none of whom have survived to hear the bell to start round two.
Fully agree about Wallisch and the Zhangs. I'll give TLM a pass in view of his injury problems. Also agree about Sirenko. He looks very powerful and capable. Zakhozhyi would be a good test I think. He's well regarded in his own right and the bugger is about 6' 9" so hopefully Sirenko won't just blow him away.
Interested to hear your further thoughts - you too Ooogie, and everyone else.

Hammer would be a good choice for next step. He offers little threat but should show a lot more resistance and durability than any of Joyce's opponents to date.
Povetkin couldn't stop him. I think Joe might see that as a challenge.

Re: HW Fights I'd like to see now
While I wouldn't claim to be 'in the know' when it comes to Kean, I've watched enough of him to form a good impression . He is not exactly fleet of foot but he moves pretty well for a big man. He is a good puncher without being an intimidating one, and he is a decent boxer with a good jab. In short a good all-rounder.
Jamamb recently posted his (Kean's not Jamamb's
) amateur pre-olympic contest with the Ecuadorian Ytalo Perea, He was giving the smaller man a boxing lesson until round three when Perea found his face with a peach of a left hook. Kean got off the floor but ran into another beauty which after a short delay, felled him like a mighty redwood.
They were exceptional left hooks though, and while they demonstrate that Kean isn't shell-proof and can be caught, I don't think alarm bells should be ringing about the quality of his chin,
So in answer to your question he's done nothing yet to qualify him as a contende,r but he appears to have the necessary tools in his bag.
