If Hughie Vacates
Re: If Hughie Vacates
Joyce is criminally underrated on this forum. 4 fight novice yes, but surely we are better than that and can look past it. I have no doubt in my mind the Furys are avoiding the Joyce fight as far too likely he will be ripped to shreds

I don't think that Hennessy will be able to provide the high calibre opponents that Hughie's talent deserves.tiny_acres wrote: ↑16 May 2018, 13:05He will probably go after the alphabet groups regional titles to gain a high rating.theboxingmadman wrote: ↑16 May 2018, 13:02I get the risk Vs reward debate, but where does Fury go next?tiny_acres wrote: ↑16 May 2018, 12:56 Risk vs reward. I'm sure if team Joyce comes up with an astronomical figure Hughie would accept.
But the fight doesn't sell and couldn't draw enough for a huge purse
He's looking for a world title and not going to settle for domestic belts.
It's a shame
Peter says Hughie is the "uncrowned heavyweight champ of the world". He'll stay uncrowned if he doesn't get the big fights and if his father continues to protect him as he does.
Re: If Hughie Vacates
Ok, IMO it was the right decision as he needed rebuilding and confidence restoring.
Re: If Hughie Vacates
Yeah, but unless he had to fight someone as good as Chisora, then beating a few lower top 10 domestic opponents for the British title would have been a good way to restore confidence.
All he did instead was give up his title and fight a bunch of uninteresting journeymen for two years.
How did beating nobodies that no one cared about rebuild his confidence?
Re: If Hughie Vacates
I long for the golden days of Scott Gammer Vs Mickey Steeds
Re: If Hughie Vacates
Possibly would have been a better route yeah but I understand why it was the decision they took. TBH I do not think anything would rebuild his confidence, subsequent years and now having the ability to be wise after the event allows us to see the fragility of PriceyHorse wrote: ↑16 May 2018, 13:28Yeah, but unless he had to fight someone as good as Chisora, then beating a few lower top 10 domestic opponents for the British title would have been a good way to restore confidence.

Re: If Hughie Vacates
Which I mentioned in my first post.
Again, I was writing about the last decade and so did not refer to his previous reign as it was further back.
Re: If Hughie Vacates
Joyce was vocal about wanting to fight Hughie for it. Not sure if that was a case of wanting the belt, wanting Hughie's name on his record, or both. Hopefully it was the first or third and he fights for the vacant title. Wouldn't surprise me if they went through Whyte, Chisora, Dubois, Gorman etc and they all turned it down. I think Warren maybe puts Gorman in with him but there's no chance that he risks Dubois. Price might take it. He seemed to have a bit of a "who gives a fvck, I just want to fight" vibe about him after the Povetkin defeat.
Re: If Hughie Vacates
I dont think Either Fury or Joyce would be interested in fighting each other at this point.
It would be a step up for Gorman or Dubois.
Tyson, Chisora, Whyte or Haye wouldn't be interested in taking a step back unless the money was big enough..
I think Price would be interested.
And of course Sexton or Cornish would jump at getting back in the mix.

Nice one!
It does have a whiff of the mallard about it.

Re: If Hughie Vacates
Sounds likely, or maybe Dave Allen gets another shot. Either way, it'll be Joyce v someone way down the pecking order. Maybe Kash Ali?
Re: If Hughie Vacates
Dave Allen doesn't have any business being near the British title. Made his name off social media before losing to Dillian Whyte and Luis Ortiz and then he has an utter stinker against Lenroy Thomas. Again, an opportunity he didn't exactly deserve, but blew because he came in completely out of shape.African Monkey wrote: ↑17 May 2018, 04:22Sounds likely, or maybe Dave Allen gets another shot. Allen needs to go away and actually beat somebody who is relatively relevant. Not, David Howe or Tom Dallas.

I fully agree but it wouldn't suprise me at he same time if he gained another shot due to so many other candidates turning it down.ozzy1875 wrote: ↑17 May 2018, 04:34Dave Allen doesn't have any business being near the British title. Re: If Hughie Vacates
Plenty good fights to be made in a healthy domestic division. Hopefully all the contenders are actually willing to get it on! That's the main obstacle.
Re: If Hughie Vacates
I don't really see the point in Hughie vacating... yet.
He's not going to get a world title shot in the next few years and guys with rankings aren't going to fight him unless they are paid handsomely. He's a fighter that will be avoided, not because he is the amazing un-crowned world champion but because he is nearly impossible to look good against and the win (if they won) would do nothing for them career-wise.
Hughie would be better off fighting guys at a lower level (for now) who are genuinely coming to win and take the belt from him. He needs to get some aggression and become more of a "fighter" if he wants to progress. I don't want to use "toughen up" but I think that can be used here, just.

Some good fights to be made - Chisora, Price, Gorman, Joyce, Dubois - and that is just in this country.
I bet none of these fights get made though.
Re: If Hughie Vacates
I agree with these statements. I don't think it would do Fury any harm at all to take on 3 defenses and win the Lonsdale Belt outright. Whilst he's taking the 12-15 months to do that, the Heavyweight division should clear itself up.
Re: If Hughie Vacates
What 5 fights would people put together at domestic level then? Assuming Whyte, Chisora, Price etc don't want to drop back down and taking into consideration whats realistic and whats not i.e. FW won't be doing Dubois vs Gorman just yet.
Hughie Fury vs Joe Joyce (British and Commonwealth titles)
Nathan Gorman vs Sam Sexton (British title eliminator)
Nick Webb vs Gary Cornish (British title eliminator)
Daniel Dubois vs Dave Allen (English title)
Kash Ali vs Sean Turner
Something along those lines would be decent. Then Gorman vs Webb assuming that they both win. Could move Dubois onto Cornish or Sexton if they both lose etc.

Why would Price and Chisora be dropping down to fight Hughie Fury for the British title? what are these lofty heights they are currently campaigning at?ElJefe wrote: ↑17 May 2018, 08:21 What 5 fights would people put together at domestic level then?
