it says quite correctly that bruce seldon was down in rd 1 v jose ribalta, yet it also says TKO4 win for seldon. it really should say jose quit after the 3rd rd with an eye injury.

i have the video, its the on the same bill as mercer-damiani and morrison-tillis.

plus everywhere else i have seen it says tko3.

All the reports I've read of the fight also say TKO 3, so I don't know why it's a TKO 4 here. But I hesitate to change it, because maybe the person who made it a 4th round TKO knows something I don't.

both of us have seen it widely reported as a tko3...

well done wouter, but how about adding that ribalta quit with an eye injury rather than people thinkin seldon knocked out the legendary El Nino, jose ribalta?

The story of the fight was as far as I remember Seldon going down in the opening seconds, after which he beat up on Ribalta the next two-and-a half rounds. You say that just saying TKO 3 gives a wrong impression of the fight, well only saying that Seldon was down and Ribalta had to quit with an eye injury gives an even worse impression of the fight. I think you're not the most unbiased person when it comes to "The legendary EL NINO". I'll look up the fight report and think of something

great stuff enrique. info on jose is so scarce. i didn't know any of that stuff, apart from the school security job.

have you seen jose recently? do you see him regularly? i was told he doesn't speak english yet before the joe hipp fight he was speaking english fine.

His English is fine. He grew up and graduated from high school in Florida. Dave Clark, who taught him from the time Nino was 11 or so, and worked a lot of his pro fights also coached Robert Daniels, whom I managed for his first 14 fights. Jose and Daniels sparred often. Jose is a very nice man. He turned pro in the Pugilistic Promotion cards where one-third of the promotional enterprise was one of my best friends, the great boxing historian Hank Kaplan. I see Jose now and then at the fights.

enrique ive a;lways wanted to know when jose escaped cuba?

some reckon he was an amateur start there with his 55-8 record but obviously he wasnt if he was at school in florida right?

whats the story on his departure from cuba?

JOSE LEFT CUBA WITH HIS FAMILY VERY YOUNG. HIS WHOLE AMATEUR CAREER WAS IN FLORIDA -GG AND AAU TOURNAMENTS- LIKE I SAID, HE LOST TO STEVE WHETSTONE IN THE AMATEURS AND STEVE NEVER WEIGHED MORE THAN 118 AS A PRO. SINCE HE HAD A BROTHER ALSO NAMED JOSE -I THINK IT'S JOSE FELIPE- SOME THINK THAT JOSE FOUGHT STEVENSON IN CUBA IN THE EARLY SEVENTIES, BUT THAT WAS AN OLDER BROTHER THAT REMAINED BEHIND AND HAS SINCE COME TO FLORIDA, WHERE HE EVEN WORKED A COUPLE OF JOSE'S CORNERS. ANOTHER BROTHER -JOSE AGUSTIN- ALSO FOUGHT IN FLORIDA GG AND AAU AND HAD A FEW PRO BOUTS- SEE BOX REC UNDER JOSE AGUSTIN RIBALTA.
