Worst most boring fight you've seen

Post by oogiebe »

Having slept through Stevenson/Jack, what was the most boring fight you watched in its entirety???

Mine may have been Stevenson/jack.

For some reason, Dibb vs Lueveno always stands out. Maybe because was sick that night and waiting on Hopkins-Pavlik.

Even if I was well, it would have been 12 rounds of unrelieved tedium by 2 guys who seemed petrified of each other.

I'm sure plenty others sucked roots too. I'll have to think about it.

Quickly, I now recall JMM vs Salido. A real dozer. Should have been a decent scrap, but Marquez was coming off his first fight against Pacquiao where he was dropped 3 times.

He seemed very gun shy or just exceptionally cautious and just boxed safely.

Salido was clueless how to deal with it and did virtually nothing.

Just a bad fight.

I'm certain that Fury-Klitschko will hold a place of honor on quite a few lists.

I forget the name of the Filipino opponent, but Rigo had a "fight" on the undercard of Canelo-Cotto.

Just 12 rounds of lethargic sparring. The Filipino couldn't do anything. Rigo didn't feel like doing anything.

Just dreadful stuff. Luckily 15 round title fights were extinct.

Funny thing is that immediately following that championship disgrace, I saw one of the most exciting, dramatic title fights ever.

Vargas vs Miura. I assume most of you know how special that one was.

Oh, yeah. That's probably the most uneventful fight ever. I remember someone on youtube commenting about it: "The score is 0-0 draw", so true.

Tubbs vs Page, two listless overweight heavies pawed at each other for 12 rounds back in 1985.

Page's WBA title was on the line, but both fought as if the belt was infected with AIDS.

Luckily I suspected beforehand that the bout was going to be a real snoozer, so I wasn't disappointed by it. It just lived down to my low expectations.

Somehow the judges decided that Tubbs did enough to deserve the decision and the title.

I felt that it should have been declared No Contest and both fighters' licenses revoked.

I started following boxing after Holyfield vs Cooper fight, which was an amazing slugfest. Just imagine how many people decided never to watch boxing again if their first fight was DeLeon vs Nelson or Ruiz vs Oquendo?

Maybe we should have a moratorium on citing Rigo fights.

I know that I did too, but it's just too easy.

You are remembering this through rose tinted glasses Senor, it was 15 rounds! The most interesting thing about it was watching Muhammad Ali at ringside.

But whenever this subject comes up it's always DeLeon v Nelson for me.

I just watched a couple of rounds from De Leon vs Nelson fight to compare it with Byrd vs Williamson. I have to say Byrd vs Williamson looks really exciting fighht in comparison to Nelson vs De Leon.

Tyson Fury vs Wladimir Klitschko or Chris Byrd vs Davarryl Williamson

One was a staring contest, one was two guys playing patty cake for 12 rounds. Both shouldn't even be considered "Fights"

I mentioned here that I just watched a couple of rounds from Byrd vs Williamson fight and a couple of rounds from Nelson vs De Leon fight to compare them. I wouldn't say Nelson - De Leon fight makes Byrd - Williamson fight look like Holyfield - Qawi I, but it makes it look like a decent fight in comparison.

I'll just have to take your word for it. I'm not about to sit down and watch a candidate for "Worst fight of all time" just to see if it's in fact as bad as everyone says.

If it's bad enough to be in the discussion I trust it was sh*t

You're right, Flump.

I guess I wasn't paying close enough attention to that epic struggle. Big surprise.

But 12 or 15, it sucked.

It must have been a "fight" that was near the end of the 15 round era.

Indeed. From the top of my head I think Holmes-Spinks II would have been the last heavyweight title fight to go 15 rounds.
