Eric Molina Banned: Failed Doping Test after AJ Fight
American boxer Eric Molina has been suspended for two years after testing positive for a banned substance following his heavyweight fight with Anthony Joshua in December 2016.
The 36-year-old tested positive for the prohibited substance dexamethasone.
The steroid is permitted by the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) out of competition.
Molina was stopped in the third round as Joshua successfully defended his IBF heavyweight title in Manchester.
"Every athlete is solely responsible for what is in their system and must adhere to the strict liability principle," said UK Anti-Doping chief executive Nicole Sapstead.
"All athletes at any level should familiarise themselves with the Wada Prohibited List and ensure they do not put themselves in a position where they may breach anti-doping regulations."
Molina's ban runs from the date of the provisional suspension - 28 October 2017 - until midnight on 27 October 2019.

This is quite strange. There was a scare for him to not fight Wach,

But that seems to be okay now.

well, Wach's fight is not a main event anymore, it's actually moved from main event to 4th fight from the end (Szpilka-Guinn is a main event now) so it looks like Molina will not fightRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑22 May 2018, 08:51 This is quite strange. There was a scare for him to not fight Wach,

They could have banned him after the event. loldagilechia wrote: ↑22 May 2018, 09:19well, Wach's fight is not a main event anymore, it's actually moved from main event to 4th fight from the end (Szpilka-Guinn is a main event now) so it looks like Molina will not fightRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑22 May 2018, 08:51 This is quite strange. Win or lose his career would've been just about over so if they were going to do it at a bad time it would've been better then.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑22 May 2018, 09:29They could have banned him after the event. loldagilechia wrote: ↑22 May 2018, 09:19well, Wach's fight is not a main event anymore, it's actually moved from main event to 4th fight from the end (Szpilka-Guinn is a main event now) so it looks like Molina will not fightRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑22 May 2018, 08:51 This is quite strange. NEWS JUST IN
Molina was in the process of an interview with WBN to confirm the Wach fight was going ahead as planned despite travel issues when a media barrage on the story was released.
Immediately heading home from the airport, Molina gave WBN his initial reaction to the news he faces the possibility of being out of action until October 2019.
"Listen, the test was two years ago and now I want to bring some stuff to light," Molina exclusively told World Boxing News.
"I'm banned for an anti-inflammatory that was found in my system from a B12 shot which was proven to have no PED effect on my system.
"This is my first offense of any substance. It’s an anti-inflammatory and I'm given a two-year ban?
"This makes no sense and this is what is wrong with boxing," he added.
Obviously alluding to the recent situation regarding Canelo Alvarez, Molina questioned why such a harsh sentence would be handed down by UKAD.
"This was always funny to me when I have heard of fighters all over the world that have been caught using an actual steroid (or Clenbuterol - a steroid-type) and have been suspended months for three to six months.
"I have never used a PED (performance enhancing drug) and to be given the max penalty is just flat out dumb.
"Fighters that have been caught two or three times with actual steroids in their system and have been given months out. As I said, this is exactly what is wrong with boxing."
Asked whether his fight with Wach would be cancelled, Molina said it was too early to tell.
"I have no clue, to be honest, but I am upset about the whole thing," said Molina.
The sheer timescale of the UKAD confirmation of the ban does seem strange as a whole seventeen months have passed since the fight in question against Anthony Joshua.
'Drummer Boy' gave a urine sample after the third round loss and was only informed a full year and change later of his adverse finding, having fought two interim fights in the meantime.
Procedures must be fast-tracked for the good of the sport, which was the case with Canelo, as Molina contemplates an appeal and seeks to find out whether he can continue his career in the coming months.

Wach is suspended indefinitely by NYSAC. I see nothing on Molina.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑22 May 2018, 10:46 NEWS JUST IN

Re: Eric Molina Banned: Failed Doping Test after AJ Fight
See https://www.ukad.org.uk/anti-doping-rul ... iolations/ for the full decision. Paragraph 43 says "There were no formal submissions received from the Respondent. However, the Tribunal did take note of the various emails that he and his representative, Mr Clark, exchanged with UKAD and Sport Resolutions, as well as the contents of the interview the Boxer gave to UKAD on 5 September 2017." Bit odd not to make any formal submission to the Tribunal when you are at risk of a ban.

Not that Molina is a world beater or anything, but he gets paid to box. This is bullshït. Revealing results a year later. Re: Eric Molina Banned: Failed Doping Test after AJ Fight
Molina says that substance found in his blood was part of b-12 vitamin injections. He says that he doesn't even know if he's banned only in UK or worldwide. he says also that he knows about the doping issue since february-march 2017 when he was asked by UKAD. and now they informed him that he's banned since october 2017. Asked about Wach fight he said that he have no idea if it gonna happen or not

I would like to see them both in the retirement. With or without PEDs...........dagilechia wrote: ↑22 May 2018, 11:57against Joshua obviously not, but i guess he was juiced vs Adamek too
Re: Eric Molina Banned: Failed Doping Test after AJ Fight
100% (retire already).
Re: Eric Molina Banned: Failed Doping Test after AJ Fight
How the f*ck did it take them THIS LONG to notice this or do something about this?
Ridiculous
Ridiculous
Re: Eric Molina Banned: Failed Doping Test after AJ Fight
I think the real controversy here is why it took so long for this to come out. The entire lab, the entire staff running the doping test should be disbanned for lack of competence.

what is with ukad and these big ass delays?

Re: Eric Molina Banned: Failed Doping Test after AJ Fight
The Curious Case of Eric Molina: UKAD accused of 'making an example' of boxer despite no PED's
In a video statement, the 'Drummer Boy' went further by naming the banned substance as Tribedoce DX, which contains Dexamethasone, which was cited by UKAD for their punishment.
Explaining that he'd already divulged he took the anti-inflammatory (Tribedoce DX) on the day of the fight, it's hard to fathom why it's taken UKAD seventeen months to pass sentence.
Two years seems harsh for Molina when all cards were laid on the table and he was allowed to fight Joshua and two more opponents since, with an appeal set to follow in the coming days and weeks.
Questions need to be asked about UKAD's timing and delay on a conclusion, as if Molina was a dirty fighter (which he's not), any other opponents sharing the ring are at risk.
In another exclusive development, representative Adrian Clark, a knowledgeable boxing advisor and manager, elaborated further on the conversations between the Molina camp and UKAD leading up to the Joshua fight.
"There were numerous conversations I had with UKAD and their lawyers as I was involved this entire case," Clark explained to World Boxing News.
"It's a very harsh punishment, to say the least, but their minds were already made up before the final ruling.
"Was there a violation according to UKAD guidelines, yes? Did Eric openly admit to unknowingly violating there guidelines? Absolutely!
"Eric even went as far as providing proof of the supplements he took before the fight.
"What this boils down to is UKAD looking to make an example and show that they are cracking down on fighters that look to gain a competitive, unfair advantage in a fight.
"The problem is, Eric Molina did not take a PED. I do not agree with the ruling, whatsoever," he added.
