Tony Bellew To Continue Boxing
"Tony Bellew definitely wants to fight again and Andre Ward would be ideal opponent", says David Coldwell
Trainer Coldwell insists he is happy for Bellew to continue his career, provided that he faces an opponent that is going to bring out the 35-year-old's burning desire for victory.
"I said it straight after the fight, and I said it after the first Haye fight, I would love him to retire," Coldwell told Sky Sports.
"He's had a fantastic career. He's done everything and more than what he ever set out to achieve, but at the same time, he's still improving in the gym. He's not on the slide, he's not failing to pull the trigger, he's not showing signs of deterioration in the gym. He's getting better and better each camp at this stage.
"I understand that he wants to carry on. I understand that. As long as it's a fight that's going to get the fire burning in his belly, make him want to come to the gym, make him work as hard as he always works hard. As long as it's a fight like that, I get that. I'm happy for him to do so.
"We spoke the other day, and he did say that if that fight had been that hard where it dims and maybe put out the fire, but he says instead it made the flames burn even brighter.
"He definitely wants to fight again, whether it's Ward, whether it's Fury, I don't know."
"It's the same sort of thing where everyone thinks that Bellew is going to get smashed," said Coldwell. "That's the motivation right there.
"The motivation is fighting a pound-for-pound great fighter, an absolute great, phenomenal fighter in Ward, and the motivation of beating somebody like that for you legacy and for what you are walking away from the sport is - it's phenomenal.
"They are the kind of fights that's going to give him the fire, give the motivation. He doesn't have to have an opponent in there that he doesn't like, he just has to have that buzz about the fight."

Not really interested in Ward-bellew
Re: Tony Bellew To Continue Boxing
Amazed people cannot see the attraction in the Ward Bellew fight. What is the issue what is putting people off?
Re: Tony Bellew To Continue Boxing
A Fury fight would sell big time.

I can’t imagine there would be enough money in that fight to get Ward interested in it?
For Ward it would only be worth doing for the money as the win doesn’t really give him any credit or an extra championship.

Re: Tony Bellew To Continue Boxing
Initial negotiations last year went downhill due to money demands. Like you said, Ward doesn't gain much if he wins. But Bellew,, win and he's boasting that he beat a P4P great and lose, he'll just say he lost to a P4P great.leejonesjnr wrote: ↑23 May 2018, 04:18 I can’t imagine there would be enough money in that fight to get Ward interested in it?

Re: Tony Bellew To Continue Boxing
Didn't Ward retire?
Re: Tony Bellew To Continue Boxing
He should fight the winner of Usyk-Gassiev and see if he can become the undisputed cruiserweight champ, instead of calling out a retired light heavyweight.
Re: Tony Bellew To Continue Boxing
I don't get it. What attraction lies in Ward-Bellew? Andre Ward lost against Kovalev in the first match and low-blowed him into oblivion in the next match. Ward is a fraud. That's one.
Two: Tony Bellew is coming in at 220 pounds now. Andre Ward has been 175 or less his entire life. What weight would they meet at? Is Bellew expected to drop 50 pounds? Is Andre Ward expected to put on 50 pounds? Do they gain and lose 25 pounds and meet in the middle? I truly don't get it.
If Ward decides to come back, let him fight Dimitry Bivol or a trilogy with Kovalev. How does Bellew get dragged into light-heavyweights at 6 foot 3? Makes no sense to me. Bellew versus Usyk at catchweight 210 would be something of interest to me. But Ward? I don't get it. Someone enlighten me how Bellew-Ward makes any sense at all.

Re: Tony Bellew To Continue Boxing
Bellew isnt interested in life and death matches, hes won his titles and made his money, hes just after novelty matches now to top up his pension and why the hell not ?, play the game dont let it play you, Ward is a former P4P champ that would probably fancy his chances and his name still carries some weight, the fact he twice beat Kovalov once with brains and once with brawn is part of the sell.AlbBoxing wrote: ↑23 May 2018, 04:30 I don't get it. Option 1....A retired light heavy for big money
Option 2. An active eastern European hard pudendum champion for biggish money
Option 3.... Oh, there isn't one really other than retirement.

Re: Tony Bellew To Continue Boxing
oh i can see some of the interest in it, but its just a strange one to me. a guy who said hes retired who fought his championship career at 168 and then retired as a 175 fighter, coming up for a heavyweight fight? or a cruiser fight with a guy who just fought twice at hw ?
and like said ward has big money demands. it would be very pricey. ward is obviously a great fighter but just before this was talked about didnt at all strike me as the guy who would be a mega fight for bellew. it wasnt at all a fight that seemed 'natural'.
and ward winning doesnt really do a great deal for his rep i think, because bellew isnt really established as a hw contender and he swerved the super six and isnt a cruiser champ or considered in the very most top cruiser tier. and then if this is a hw fight and bellew beats a guy who fought mainly at 168 and never past 175, how exactly do you rate that?

Re: Tony Bellew To Continue Boxing
Bellew has said he would go down to 195 to fight Stevenson. I doubt he would say that if he couldn't make 195. I don't think he ever struggled to make 200 pounds. So maybe another 5 might be okay for him.
Re: Tony Bellew To Continue Boxing
He has got no intention of fighting Stevenson, and I don't blame him.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑23 May 2018, 05:31 Bellew has said he would go down to 195 to fight Stevenson. Fair play to him though, as somebody said earlier he is playing the game rather than the game playing him, and very few boxers have been in that position.
As much as his bollox is infuriating, you've got to give him that.
