Gilgamesh should really be world champion by now. Staring out Wlad, who nearly knocked out AJ, Del, who should have the win against Whyte, and Hammer, who stopped Price. All after Tyson stared them out. The Wlad who boxed AJ would have been even worse stared out because he was 41 and knew he couldn’t hit Tyson, let alone beat him.

The bias towards certain boxers an against other boxers is ridiculous on here. There's also a massive bias towards matchroom fighters and anything they do. I think even the hardcore fans are being brain washed as bad as the casual fans
Re: Are Tyson fury and billy joe Saunders Britain’s best boxers???
It's a reaction towards the ludicrous hype a couple of wins did. Fury went from a fat boring fighter who was effective but fairly limited to a heavyweight defensive genius.Wa1nuts wrote: ↑23 May 2018, 04:44Spot onmickey1975 wrote: ↑23 May 2018, 03:06 Gilgamesh should really be world champion by now. Gilgamesh is a hater

However he best chisora the 2nd time convincingly. A few years later Whyte struggles against an older Chisora and suddenly he's number 2 in Britain an should rematch Aj despite barely winning a round
All because Whyte is over hyped an a matchroom fighter. If he was on Bt nobody on this board would care about him an call him a bum that struggled against an old chisora. It's embarrassing.
I see gilgamesh constantly giving Fury abuse which is fair enough if that's how he feels but never seen him give Whyte any abuse. Whyte struggled against chisora recently Fury didn't. See the blatant double standards?
Re: Are Tyson fury and billy joe Saunders Britain’s best boxers???
Not massively. Whyte has had a fight against a guy who won a world title and he was destroyed. Fury won his fight.
I don't think many people really rate Whyte that much. I think most casuals would recognise him as 'that guy AJ sparked out.' Fury's achievements are considerably greater than Whyte's obviously.

Re: Are Tyson fury and billy joe Saunders Britain’s best boxers???
Exactly. Yet Fury gets hate an Whyte gets praise. Makes no sense. Not mentioned Whyte trying to hit Aj after the bell an nearly starting a riot etc.
Also nobody says a bad word about WK despite in the fury fight he tried to blatantly head butt him. Fury did nothing of the sort yet just seems to get abuse. WK was also very boring an negative a lot of the time but again it's Fury who gets abuse for fighting like its a staring contest

Re: Are Tyson fury and billy joe Saunders Britain’s best boxers???
Wlad was criticised by boxing fans for well over a decade for being boring. He wasn't really given much abuse because he comes across as a nice enough guy. I think most people accepted, perhaps grudgingly, that he was very effective. But his fights were often boring.Wa1nuts wrote: ↑23 May 2018, 09:43 Exactly. Yet Fury gets hate an Whyte gets praise. Fury has taken a lot of criticism for coming out with stupid stuff about women and gays, and for talking a good game but being boring. It naturally boils down to people overrating his fight against Klitschko like it was some sort of masterclass and others saying it was the worst fight of all time.
Re: Are Tyson fury and billy joe Saunders Britain’s best boxers???
My favourite one that is used is "Klitschko lost to Fury because he chose not to fight" therefore Fury is rubbish because "the Klitschko that fought Joshua would have knocked Fury out" therefore Joshua is brilliant.Wa1nuts wrote: ↑23 May 2018, 07:45I understand what you mean

Surely the truth is that there's probably not a lot between Fury and Joshua. Joshua has the power to knock Fury out but Fury could also quite possibly outbox Joshua with his movement. Fight could quite easily go either way.
Joshua's reputation is very much built on stopping an old and inactive Klitschko. Take that away and his record and performances really aren't that impressive.
Re: Are Tyson fury and billy joe Saunders Britain’s best boxers???
Joshua has stopped everyone else he's faced bar one and barely lost a round. I don't know what more you'd have expected him to do.
Fury's reputation is largely based on the terrible fight with Klitschko. Beyond that his record isn't that great either and includes being sat on his arse by Steve Cunningham and Nevan Pajkic and probably getting beat as a novice by John McDermott.

You can play this game all day. Joshua beat Whyte who he lost to in the amateurs. Whyte and Chisora had a 50:50 fight. Fury and Haye easily beat a younger version of Chisora. Etc etc etc.
I genuinely think it's a close fight.

Dirk WILL play this game all day. His stats on mentioning Tyson are off the scale. He reminds me a bit of the Flint Island/Enzo days.ewenhay wrote: ↑23 May 2018, 14:29dirk2686 wrote: ↑23 May 2018, 14:19 Joshua has stopped everyone else he's faced bar one and barely lost a round. Mind, as often as dirk thrashes the poor old nag around the rather empty paddock of his boxing mind, its more broken down bent-backed dog meat fodder than a hobby horse by now.

It was, Fury’s reaction was good though. He glanced at the ref, saw he wasn’t going to act and got stuck in. He wasn’t going to be denied that nightBoxerbeetle wrote: ↑23 May 2018, 14:41That headbutt attempt from Wlad was a fvcking disgraceWa1nuts wrote: ↑23 May 2018, 09:43 Exactly. Re: Are Tyson fury and billy joe Saunders Britain’s best boxers???
to me there is a whole lot of phoney baloney with the 'staring contest' ppl. aside from that they seem to suggest that ppl are acting like fury is some defensive savant, but how many ppl are really saying that?
its one of the most seen things---guy goes up against a difficult to hit and pin down boxer who is hitting him back, and his output drops. we saw it all the time with floyd, with ward, and all the way down to no power paulie just outjabbing guys. missing punches, or simply having a moving target that is preventing you from setting the feet, can be extremely discouraging esp when you are getting hit back when you do try throwing.
for me it was always the most frustrating thing as a hard hitting but slow boxer, to face a guy that moved well and use the mobility and speed and sense of distance to be out of range before i got there. i was never hurt as a boxer but this type of thing would have me weary to throw because i knew id probably miss and sometimes embarrasingly so. funny enough i was super tall for my weight but i actually found really short guys who new how to make themselves small were most tricky. although that doesnt apply to wlad-fury.
anyway wlad was usually super cauitious, so now throw in a defensively adept (not saying a hw nick locche) 6'8 guy who moves well and has a giant reach to be hitting wlad from the outside. and you get a 'starting contest'. now i do think wlad wouldve done better if hed said f it and gone for it, but thing is that the whole art of being able to discourage your opponent so much is part of boxing (and of course wlad rarely showed that mindset anyway)
the fact that furys fights with chis and hammer were so similar (chis had some early rushes but quickly stopped those) shows the effect. its not just that fury has some magical alchemist power to stare guys into inaction, its that hes a giant, defensively adept guy who knows how to use his strengths in a way that shuts opponents down
imo, as much as i actually think aj and wilder would beat him eventually, its laughable how much some direspect him as a boxer

Must admit I was always convinced that Joshua would KO Fury, but having seen him struggle somewhat with Parker’s movement, I’d now have it 50-50 (assuming Fury was in the same shape as he was against Wlad obviously, God knows what he’ll actually be like next month).jamamb wrote: ↑23 May 2018, 15:24 to me there is a whole lot of phoney baloney with the 'staring contest' ppl. aside from that they seem to suggest that ppl are acting like fury is some defensive savant, but how many ppl are really saying that?
