It’s rare you’ll see such a badly prepared world champion make a feeble defence like that

Commentators immediately blaming Jamie being weight drained.

When our guys lose there is an excuse for something being wrong with them rather than it being something superior from the other guy.

When our guys win it is always because they are better

Inoue Blows Out McDonnell in 1st Round to Win Bantamweight Title

Naoya Inoue wasted no time overwhelming Jamie McDonnell with his vaunted power Friday night in Tokyo.

Japan’s Inoue showed McDonnell immediately why he is nicknamed “Monster.” He knocked down the defending bantamweight champion twice in less than two minutes and won their bantamweight title bout by first-round knockout at Ota City General Gymnasium.

Inoue opened up to McDonnell’s body about 40 seconds into their fight. His attack moved McDonnell into the ropes and made him cover up.

Inoue wobbled McDonnell about 1:20 into the bout by landing a left hook to the side of McDonnell’s head. Approximately 10 seconds later, Inoue sent McDonnell to the canvas with a left hook to the body.

McDonnell made it to his feet, but Inoue jumped on him quickly. He hurt McDonnell again with a straight right hand, followed it up with a left hook and McDonnell went down again.

Referee Luis Pabon stopped their scheduled 12-round, 118-pound title bout just 1:52 into it as McDonnell hit the canvas for the second time. Inoue won the WBA world bantamweight title from McDonnell.

The 25-year-old Inoue (16-0, 14 KOs) became a world champion in a third weight class in just his 16th professional fight. He previously owned the WBC light flyweight and WBO super flyweight titles.
