David Lemieux vs. Karim Achour - May 26, 2018

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

David Lemieux (38-4, 33 KOs) is going to stay busy by returning to the ring on May 26th in Quebec.

The return has been confirmed by Lemieux's management and co-promoters, Eye of The Tiger Management.

Lemieux was initially being positioned to fight on May 5th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, as part of the HBO Pay-Per-View undercard to the Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Alvarez rematch.

Lemieux will return against French fighter Karim Achour (26-4-3, 4 KOs) at the Videotron Center, in a fight where the WBC international title will be at stake.

"Of course we do not want another defeat. Boxing fans want to see David Lemieux at his best. I'll be prepared, I'll take care of the injuries so that I do not have any worries in the ring. I'm aiming to return to the top, so every fight is very important. On May 26, expect fireworks," said Lemieux to The Montreal Journal.

Although this is not Lemieux's first option, the fight against Achour is far from being won, according to Lemieux's head trainer Marc Ramsay.

"We just canceled a big fight [on May 5], and for a few days David was very disappointed. However, this alternative is better than expected. Achour holds international titles and has never been stopped. David will have the opportunity to prove something about his progress as a boxer," Ramsay said.

Also on the card, Nova Scotia's Custio Clayton (14-0, 10 KOs) will face Dutchman Stephen Danyo (14-0-3, 6 KOs).

Clayton is currently ranked seventh by the WBO in the welterweight division, while Danyo is just behind him at eighth.
The WBO International and IBF Intercontinental welterweight titles will be at stake.

They were supposedly trying to match him with Spike O'Sullivan.

Achour has never been knocked down but Lemieux is one of those big step up fights for him.

Oddsmakers have Lemieux about a 1-100 favorite so don't expect much, if anything.

A confidence builder after the BJS debacle.

It seems Lemieux can't make 160lbs anymore, he could move to 168lbs.

Hard to say if Lemieux even grew out of 160 lbs. The guy comes in with obvious fat around his torso. He does absolutely kill himself to make weight, though. He looks like Skeletor during weigh-ins.

Never heard of Karim....but I give him a shot because he’s fighting Lemieux. He’s gone 12 rounds been in a good amount of fights. He has 4 Kos though!....which might be a indicator of his boxing skill. If he has next to no power....seemingly worse than Pauline mallinagi power....how is he winning? I’d guess it’s boxing skill. David Lemieux can’t box and doesn’t cope well with boxers.

Anyway just a guess. Anyone seen Karim in action?

id think lemiex should still have plenty to beat this guy, in the last 7-8 years hes beaten all the b and c level guys hes faced without too much issue beyond him looking sloppy, this guy is probably c at best.

lemix is kinda funny because he often looks drained and gaunt in the face but then his body doesnt look boiled down at all

I know!
:maybe:

I don't fancy him at 168 either, not this late in his career. Guys like Ramirez/Smith/Groves would monster him, he's listed (optomistically) at 5'9" & 1/2.

Achoum never fought an opponent with a KO ration above 50% and he only has 4 KOs, even if he fought loosers for most of his carreer. Lemieux will not want to extend this fight and should KO him before round 6.

David Lemieux Sends Achour Down, Punishes Him For Decision

Former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (38-5, 33 KOs) failed to make the 160 limit on Friday, but he was still too good and too strong for Karim Achour (26-5-3, 4 KOs).

Achour, who had never been stopped, took a lot of punishment throughout the fight and went down in the twelfth and final round, but he still made it to the finish line.

The scores were 119-108, 120-107 and 119-107.

Lemieux may have possibly injured his left hand or shoulder in the final round while trying his best to finish Achour off.

On the undercard of Lemieux vs. Achour, junior welterweight Batyrzhan Jukembayev (13-0, 11 KOs) put away Jonathan Jose Eniz (20-9-1) in the seventh round.

In a battle of undefeated fighters, Custio Clayton (15-0, 11 KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over Stephen Danyo to capture IBF, WBO International titles. All three judges saw it 120-108.

Arslanbek Makhmudov (3-0, 3 KOs) blew away Elder Hernandez in the first round of a heavyweight fight.
Light heavyweight Erik Bazinyan (19-0, 14 KOs) took down Alejandro Falliga in the third round.
