Martin - Kownacki rumours
There are rumours that Charles Martin and Adam Kownacki are discussing a fight August 25th.
Re: Martin - Kownacki rumours
Not bad match-up. It can ultimately prove Martin's credibility or its absence. From what we've seen Kownacki should win, maybe by stoppage.

Kownacki by stoppage
Re: Martin - Kownacki rumours
I think Kownacki wins on superior conditioning and heart. I'm not sure whether he stops him though.
Re: Martin - Kownacki rumours
Martin won't stand up to Kownacki's power. IMHO. (I don't think much of Martin)

Re: Martin - Kownacki rumours
Good, I hope the fight is made. It's an interesting contest. Of course, judging by what we have ( & haven't ) seen from both recently Kownacki has to be rather heavily favored. But, any time that we get to see two top ten heavyweights in the ring together it's a good thing.
Re: Martin - Kownacki rumours
Nobody thinks much of Martin. I welcome him back though as an interesting addition to the scene.
Besides, he only ever lost against Joshua and those that can truthfully claim never to have been beaten by Anthony Joshua haven't fought him, which might explain that.
I can think of scores of potentially very decent matches involving Charles Martin and this would be one of them. Hopefully he has learned a little humility and application since making his 'I walk this Earth like a God' claim.
Of course he might have been simply suffering a dyslexic episode![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

LOL! He's had two fights since AJ. Brian Polley and Mike Marrone. He's still Charles Martin. A "never was."candyslim wrote: ↑27 May 2018, 13:26 Nobody thinks much of Martin. I welcome him back though as an interesting addition to the scene.

Re: Martin - Kownacki rumours
When guys like those two beat him then I'll write him off. Until then I'll retain a passing interest without harbouring any great expectations.
Re: Martin - Kownacki rumours
I think it will be the relentless pace and volume from Kownacki that will overwhelm Martin.
People say Martin lost to AJ. It was more than a loss, it was a Wilder/Stiverne 2 beatdown. And that was a less experienced AJ back then.
Good scalp for Kownacki, should push him up in the ratings.
Re: Martin - Kownacki rumours
I'm thinking Martin has the heart of Tor Hammer with his performance against Joshua. Kownacki digs deep. I don't think Martin can do the same.
Re: Martin - Kownacki rumours
Would be a solid match-up. Both are only marginally-proven fighters, and Martin in particular has consistently maintained a high ranking despite doing nothing except beating an opponent who had an injured knee. This fight should settle many things. Also, currently Kownacki is a pretty mediocre contender, in terms of what he's proven; but this fight provides the likelihood of offering up a very proper contender. It's a shame that it wasn't preceded by Martin getting another win against a top 50 opponent; because I think Martin has 0 credibility with some fans right now.

Re: Martin - Kownacki rumours
I think the reason that Martin still retains a ranking despite having done very little since getting blitzed by Joshua, is that whatever you say about him, he can claim to have once been a ('a' as opposed to 'the') Heavyweight Champion of the World which puts him on a rather exclusive list.
Add to that the fact that he is currently as good as he ever was i.e. he is still relatively young, he is not an old and faded ex champ (just a not very good ex champ - I thought I'd get that in before someone else makes that point) and that makes him more relevant than perhaps he deserves to be.
I think this is at the root of why I'm happy that he is back in the mix. You can't have too many heavyweights capable of impacting the top 10 or 20 in my opinion.

Really happy if this fight gets made. By no means a 5 star fight, but definitely a solid 3/4 star fight!
Probably the right fight for both, but somewhat surprised it'd be made as relatively high risk for both. Not sure where Martin would go if he lost, and not sure what he'd gain if he won.

It could be Martin's last chance to be relevant.Rob3_142 wrote: ↑29 May 2018, 09:12 Really happy if this fight gets made. By no means a 5 star fight, but definitely a solid 3/4 star fight!

Re: Martin - Kownacki rumours
My advice to Martin:
Cut the dreads, and get serious about your career. Train hard and don't take any opponent lightly. Throw every punch with bad intentions, and go into every fight like it's your last. Make a statement.
If comments like the comments on this thread doesn't get someone like Martin motivated, I don't know what would.

I'm of the belief that Charles Martin does not regularly frequent these boards...HeavyHitters wrote: ↑29 May 2018, 15:28 My advice to Martin:

Me too which is probably why HH said "if comments like the comments on this board ..." rather than simply "If the comments on this board ..."
There again he'd have to read something similar to get a feel for the criticism, because I doubt he's going to hear it from the lips of someone stood close to him![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Re: Martin - Kownacki rumours
Based on the way he goes about his business, I'd be surprised if he had any idea what the general boxing public thought of him...

Decent fight, whoever wants to get into the title mix needs a STRONG win.
