While Mickey Ward was far from being a top fighter, he was
a game and capable one who also was a fringe contender.
In regards to his popularity and purses, he more than deserved
both. Yes, I also believe that there are a lot of game Mexican
fighters who are underpaid and underappreciated, but one
should not prop them up at the expense of Ward.

Well that just about sums up your knowledge of boxing doesn't it!... I doubt you've even seen the fights!...
Rhetorical question. Both guys accomplished next to nothing in the 140-pound division. They weren't even in the top 10 or 15.
Well you would say that as you obviously don't know what your talking about, whereas someone with some boxing knowledge will know that those guys have faced lots of good fighters... as has Micky... try looking at their records and watching some of their fights mate....
How about you tell us about the great skills of Caveman Lee.... :TU:

I have heard that Augustus liked to party, but I have never heard that he has dumped any fights. Which ones has he thrown?

I agree with this, as for Silkov's comment, I really don't want to make this a "white people get more attention" thread so I guess we just have to agree to disagree, but I think you slightly misinterpreted my comment, I never said they were as good as Morales, Barrera, etc. I just said there were fighters that were/are better than Ward yet they will never get the coverage he did. I'm not bashing Ward, i'm just saying it's unfortunate that media is like this. There are probably other variables that add to why these fighters don't get media coverage as well, such as bad management.

Decagon wrote:Well, what about Miguel Cotto, for instance? Ward was never even 1/3 the fighter Cotto is. Cotto might not get fights with guys in the top five, but he consistently gets into the ring with guys in the top 15 or 20. Cotto isn't simply matched up with guys that will make him look good, the way Ward was in the end. He's trying to prove that he's the best in the division, something that Ward never even came close to doing.
I don't get your point?... are you saying that Cotto doesn't get any media attention???... what are you on buddy!...

I find your attitude rather racist really... and downright stupid considering that the top fighters today are all coloured and many of them are Mexican....

I only wish I could completely disagree, but my optimistic guess is that we all prefer our "local" fighters. So perhaps for the most part it's not racial it's geographical. Which though it can have similar outcomes is not based on any ill will to anyone. We just have an affinity to our own "neighborhoods".

And that dissapears to a great degree when a fighter with remarkable qualities establishes himself internationally.

Your comments other than being blatently racist, are ignorant also... you really havent a clue about boxing... how old are you? 12??... you say Ward was unskilled and overhyped but wet your pants over the likes of Mitch Green and Caveman Lee!!!... that just about says all we need to know about you...

And yet Decagon has a remarkable ability to calculate the betting odds. Something I would love to learn to master myself.
