Gainsford ABC

Post by badabing »

Any old time members from Gainsford Boxing Club in Covent Garden, london, years of 1966 to 1972 please drop me a line. The trainers were Peter Kent and his brother John. John died in the early 70's and peter was still alive in the 90s when we lost contact. Also trained at The Regent Poly in Regent Street London. Trainer Dave Thomas, heavyweight and George Carrol, middleweight. Dave fought Heavyweight Billy Walker and become ABA Champ. I might have got dates wrong, it is a long time ago. Please correct me if I am. Dave died in his 40s in the 1980s. He was a great guy and could hit very hard.
Thanks.

I know Peter Kent, in fact I'm with him now. He's still going!

"Dustman" Dave collapsed while he was out running in a park. Yes, he was far too young. A couple of policemen tried to help him but he was gone.

Peter Kent was the beaten finalist in the 1957 London North-West Divs. He was beaten by D Wembourne of Enterprise. Nevertheless, Peter went forward, in Wembourne's place, to the London Championships, held at the Royal Albert Hall on April 15th. He was beaten in the semi-final by Billy Wain of Lynn BC

Here is the programme for the 1957 North West Divs. Peter is listed amongst the competitors at welterweight.

Miles Templeton.
