Filip Hrgovic vs. Filiberto Tovar: Battle of Unbeatens - June 9, 2018

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Croatian heavyweight sensation Filip Hrgovic (4-0, 3 KOs) returns to the ring on June 9 in a ten-round contest against Mexico's Filiberto Tovar (9-0, 5 KOs) in Munich, Germany.

The Rio 2016 Olympic Bronze Medallist has enjoyed a storming start to his professional career dispatching his first three opponents inside the distance before scoring an eight-round unanimous decision over Irish-boxer Sean Turner in his last outing.

These dominant displays have seen Hrgovi? earn a World ranking with the World Boxing Council, one of boxing's four major governing, and listed as No.41 in the World by independent statistic site BoxRec.

The 25 year-old from Zagreb will look to continue his meteoric rise up the heavyweight ranks as he returns to Germany for third-time following victories in Nuremberg and Schwerin to face the undefeated Tovar at the Postpalast in Munich.

Will the Olympic medalist be able to beat the 23-year-old with man boobs who has no key wins? It's anyone's guess.

Who are Hgovic's key wins?

Joe Joyce has the best record/resume for the Rio guys. But he's being fast-tracked.

Huge step down for Hrgovic from Sean Turner. I don't think Tovar is much better than the last opponents of Sirenko and Ajagba.

You can't always step up every fight. especially if you're fighting every few months.

I expect Hrgovic to be way too polished and skillful for Tovar. The Mexican strikes me as a bit crude and ungainly with a tendency to arm-punch, there again that's based on my watching very little footage of him in action so that might be way off.

I do like the fact that his debut was against a guy who was 4 and 0 and Hrgovic will be the 4th unbeaten opponent Tovar has faced. The combined record of his opponents is 51 - 13 - 2..

If that doesn't sound impressive, compare his record to that of Ebenezer Tetteh (A Ghanaian Heavy/ Cruiser mentioned on the forum who I looked up because he's 16 and 0 yet his name was unfamiliar to me)

In his 7th fight he first fought an opponent who had actually managed to win one of his fights. In his 10th fight he actually fought someone with a winning record - 8 and 0 ( I don't know what happened with the matchmaking there :o )
The combined record of his opponents is currently 96 - 154 - 2.

All things considered I think Tovar is a first class sacrificial lamb :D

Tovar's past opponents records is 51-14.. Only 1 boxer with a losing record (0-1) and one opponent had 6 losses. Majority of opponents had an unbeaten record before fighting Tovar.

I kinda hope this is a competitive fight.

If it isn't it won't be because Tovar is rubbish, but Hrgovic is heading for top I reckon. He may or not win a / the heavyweight title, but he's going to be right in the mix within the next year or two at the most.

He is in my opinion the biggest mid-term threat to Anthony Joshua. (Wilder being short-term)

For the moment I have the same opinion. I'll be glad, if Hrgovic becomes a really interesting figure in the division.

Hrgovic, for such a big man, is fluid with the ability to throw combinations and takes a good punch. The question for me is when he's ready will Johsua still be around and on top?

Hrgovic is rumored to be fighting Charr for his belt in 2019.

Jarrell Miller will take the winner of Char vs. Oquendo no doubt.

Hrgovic won by the stoppage in the 4th. Tovar's corner threw in a towel.

This fight probably served as an introduction of taller opponents to Hrgovic in his pro-career. Skillwise it could have been a step back, but the other guys he faced were shorter.

Gorman is a very good prospect. My money would be on Hrgovic though.

Classy display from Hrgovic leaving aside the rabbit punches. I particularly liked that double right - body shot immediately followed by uppercut. Smooooth!
