Jimmy Ellis as a middleweight vs the following fighters

Post by scorpio83 »

Jimmy Ellis started his professional boxing career as a middleweight contender before jumping to heavyweight where he became the WBA heavyweight title after winning the 8-man elimination bout by beating Jerry Quarry by decision. At the start of his career, Jimmy Ellis fought middleweight contenders Wilf Greaves, Rory Calhoun, Holly Mims (twice), Henry Hank, Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, Don Fullmer and George Benton.

While fighting as middleweight, how would Ellis fare against the following fighters whom he never fought?

vs. Gene Fullmer
vs. Dick Tiger
vs. Joey Giardello
vs. Emile Griffith
vs. "Bad" Bennie Briscoe
vs. Joey Archer
vs. Florentino Fernandez
vs. Luis Manuel Rodriguez
(both Fernandez and Rodriguez were stablemates of Jimmy Ellis as Angelo Dundee managed and trained three of them)
vs. Terry Downes
vs. Paul Pender

Please tell me what is your opinion? :box:

I don't think that Ellis was at his best as a middleweight. He should have been fighting as a light heavy at the time.

I doubt that he beats very many of those guys as a middleweight. Maybe Pender if the fight isn't in Boston.
