Joseph Parker vs. Bryant Jennings
David Higgins, who promotes former WBO heavyweight world champion Joseph Parker (24-1, 18 KOs), has indicated that his boxer's co-promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank, is attempting to get the Kiwi superstar to make his return in the United States.
According to Higgins, Arum has proposed a showdown with Bryan Jennings (23-2), in a headline fight on August 18th in Atlantic City, New Jersey. ESPN would televise the fight live.
While Top Rank is hoping the contest takes place, Higgins told Stuff there was "still nothing firm enough to discuss."
Top Rank vice-president Carl Moretti told ESPN - "It's a fight we're working on and it's a fight we'd like to do but there are a lot of moving parts, Sometimes they get made and sometimes they don't."

Love this fight, two decent heavyweights. This could be Parker's biggest win if he gets it, same for Jennings.
Looks like Jennings is stepping up for his last chance at a title shot, i think he'd fall too far behind the other contenders if he loses here.
Only downside is that i see Jennings losing, but he is better than alot of the guys ranked above him but he is there because he hasn't been afraid to step up and take on decent opposition (and losing) while others beat nobodies and get given high rankings.

Based on resumes, it's hard to tell with Ruiz because he has faced nobodies other than his loss to Parker.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑01 Jun 2018, 05:18You reckon Jennings beats Ruiz or Takam?
Jennings is probably more known than those two TBH.
Again based on resumes with Takam, i'm not sure. He's tough and he shows up relatively well in his decision losses, but other than his win over an old Thompson, they have pretty similar wins. I also think people see Jennings as having more potential even though he's 33, i know i certainly do.
Head to head, i'd boldly say that i think Jennings beats current Takam, and probably Ruiz aswell. Neither fight would be one-sided though.
What do you think?

Yep, that's why this is so much more interesting than the rumoured Parker v Ustinov fight. The winner is basically already predetermined.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑01 Jun 2018, 06:01Fights I would like to see, that's for sure. Would be close bouts.
We need to see more top contenders fighting top contenders.
So far, the best we're getting is top contenders vs. fringe level contenders.
I'm, also interested in the rumoured Kownacki v Martin fight even though i think Kownacki should win handily. Purely because it boosts another prospect to contender status (ignoring Martin's IBF history). More contenders = more decent eliminators, because eliminators seem to be the only time we get to see a competitive matchup nowadays.

Martin had 2 comeback fights last year but hasn't fought since August I think it is. I've noticed that most American HW's, after a loss, they literally fight Z level fighters and then throw themselves into a decent HW fight. There is something called a tune up, and there's something called a 'sh!t fight'..joshj909 wrote: ↑01 Jun 2018, 06:05

Decent fight, Parker should take the decision.

Bryant Jennings' negative fighting style will allow Parker to score a decision victory.
Re: Joseph Parker vs. Bryant Jennings - August 18, 2018?
Would this fight put Parker's pro resume above Ortiz's then in terms of wins? Jennings is widely considered as Ortiz's best win...

It could also lead to an Ortiz vs Parker WBC eliminator aswell
Re: Joseph Parker vs. Bryant Jennings - August 18, 2018?
Parker, decision.
Re: Joseph Parker vs. Bryant Jennings - August 18, 2018?
Parker’s best wins top Jennings’ but I think this would make for a very close fight. A narrow decision for Parker if it happens. The winner will be very close to another title shot, the loser will struggle to ever get back into contention...

Fraud? Why?RandomUsername wrote: ↑01 Jun 2018, 11:58 I always thought that Parker was more or less a fraud but he proved me wrong. He should be able to beat Bryant Jennings.
Re: Joseph Parker vs. Bryant Jennings - August 18, 2018?
This should be a good competitive fight. I like Bryant Jennings. He has twice fought very intimidating opposition and been found wanting both times. I expect this to go the same way with Parker winning by decision.
Bryant needs to test himself against opposition which is good, but not top 6 in the world, so as to give himself experience and build his confidence, before taking on the better guys.
He always seems to aim too high or too low, totally missing out on the Goldilocks bit in between. As a boxing fan I'm pleased with this match-up, but somebody has been doing a lousy job of guiding Jennings' career.

Decent fight, but maybe a bigger step up in class than Jennings should have taken. As others have mention Takam, Thompson etc. Those probably would have been my picks.
Not taking away from Jennings talent, but his last biggest fights, he got pummeled in, and I am wondering if it might have taking a part of him out.
Parker should not take him lightly, Jennings has a lot more to gain I would say.

Tough fight to pick. Hopefully Parker but wouldn't be suprised if Jennings wins in a close one.
Re: Joseph Parker vs. Bryant Jennings - August 18, 2018?
Jennings used to seem like a top 10 heavyweight. He was one of Wlad's toughest fights between 2006 and the Fury loss. He has a fairly deep resume of decent gatekeeper scalps, and hasn't lost to anyone that a borderline top 10'er wouldn't also lose to. However, I still wonder whether Ortiz damaged him.
Anyways, I think Parker is a semi-clear favorite. But it's a respectable match-up.

The Wlad fight was rather one-sided IMO. He was an awkard opponent though.Lackeos wrote: ↑04 Jun 2018, 23:22 Jennings used to seem like a top 10 heavyweight. It wasn't quite as one-sided as the other Wlad fights. Most Wlad fights, he won all 12 rounds by tremendously wide margins. Haye, Jennings, and Thompson 1 were the only fights between Byrd and Jennings in which Wlad wasn't winning the rounds widely (i.e. by zillions of punches).Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑05 Jun 2018, 02:45The Wlad fight was rather one-sided IMO. 118–109, 116–111, 116–111.. would have been 119-109, 117-111, 117-111 but Wlad was docked a point. Pretty wide to me. But I do agree, Jennings was a different type of opponent.Lackeos wrote: ↑05 Jun 2018, 08:17It wasn't quite as one-sided as the other Wlad fights.
