Gennady Golovkin Stripped of IBF Title
The IBF stripped Gennady Golovkin of its middleweight world title on Wednesday as a result of the hearing late last month over having not agreed to a due mandatory fight with the organization's top challenger, Sergey Derevyanchenko by Aug. 3.

What's the point fighting Saunders in UK for the WBO title now. He wins? He won't be undisputed.

Re: Gennady Golovkin Stripped of IBF Title
The IBF informed the promoters of Golovkin and Derevyanchenko of its decision Wednesday afternoon. The Springfield, New Jersey-based sanctioning organization had until Wednesday to rule whether Golovkin could move forward with another fight, possibly a lucrative pay-per-view rematch against Canelo Alvarez, without having to first make his mandatory defense versus Derevyanchenko.
Golovkin’s team requested an exception during a hearing with the IBF on May 22 at the Robert Treat Hotel in Newark, New Jersey. Golovkin, who also owns the WBA, WBC and IBO middleweight titles, attended that hearing in part to let the IBF know how important it is to him to keep all the titles he has won in the ring.

IBF Explain Their Decision To Strip Gennady Golovkin of Title
By IBF,
After a lengthy review and period of deliberation the International Boxing Federation has vacated the IBF Middleweight title held by Gennady Golovkin since October 17, 2015, as a result of Golovkin not accepting one of the conditions put forth by the organization to grant him the Exception to Regulations to fight Vanes Martirosyan on May 5, 2018 which was not sanctioned by the IBF.
On April 20, 2018, the IBF received the request for an Exception to Regulations from the Golovkin camp to participate in the unsanctioned contest against Vanes Martirosyan on May 5, 2018, in Carson, CA.
On April 25, 2018, the IBF received a letter from DiBella Entertainment on behalf of #1 IBF ranked contender Sergiy Derevyanchenko indicating that Derevyanchenko had an objection to the Exception being granted allowing Gennady Golovkin to participate in an optional defense not sanctioned by the IBF.
On April 27, 2018, the majority of the IBF Board of Directors determined that the Exception to Regulations should be granted to Gennady Golovkin with the following conditions:
The Gennady Golovkin vs. Vanes Martirosyan bout must take place on or before May 5, 2018.
2. Golovkin must agree in writing that he will fight the IBF Middleweight Mandatory within 90 days of the May 5, 2018, bout or by Friday, August 3, 2018.
Golovkin shall agree in writing to indemnify, hold harmless and otherwise reimburse the IBF for any legal fees or other expenses related to the granting of said Exception, including, but not limited to, the costs attendant to any resultant litigation. (As required under IBF Rule 11.F.)
On April 30, 2018, counsel for Golovkin filed an appeal objecting to condition #2 in the Board’s decision. Counsel for Derevyanchenko, the IBF Mandatory, filed a response to the appeal on May 7, 2018.
The IBF proceeded and assembled a panel of three IBF members, who are also practicing attorneys, to review the written submissions and hear the oral arguments of counsel for the parties on May 22, 2018, at the Robert Treat Hotel in Newark, NJ. The panel made its recommendations to the IBF and based on their findings and recommendations, the IBF approved the condition that Golovkin agree to fight the IBF Middleweight mandatory opponent by August 3, 2018 in order to avoid the penalty of losing his title under IBF Rule 5.H.
Since Golovkin has not agreed in writing to fight the IBF Mandatory opponent by August 3, 2018, a required condition for the grant of the Exception, the request for an Exception to Rule 5.H. was denied in accordance to rule Rule 11.I, “Compliance with Terms of Exception” provides, “The Champion must comply with all conditions contained in the grant of an exception.” Therefore, the IBF denied the request for an Exception with the condition removed.
Furthermore, since Golovkin did not agree to the aforementioned condition in the grant of the exception, the IBF had to enforce the penalty under Rule 5H for Golovkin having participated in an unsanctioned contest within his weight class and declare the IBF Middleweight title vacant. The IBF will identify the two leading available contenders and order them to negotiate to fight for the vacant title.

Re: Gennady Golovkin Stripped of IBF Title
He expects to be compensated (rightly so) for their fight having been cancelled in the first place due to Canelo's positive PED tests.
Considering that it's a near certainty that the judges would screw him as they did in the 1st fight I think he's perfectly justified in making reasonable demands, and moving on to another fight if he can't get them.
Considering we know that the judges won't score it fairly I didn't really wanna see the rematch anyway. GGG's already beaten Canelo.

That’s pretty debatable cuz most ppl who got triple girl winning did not give Canelo the first nor the 12 round, which he won em by quality of punches.. when you are watching a fight you tend to give close rounds to the guy you are cheering for!!!

My scorecard isn'y going to be the outcome of a fight. So i'm not one of those that do secretly root for their preferred fighter.
But many media outlets also had GGG winning. Heck even Teddy Atlas, who had never rated GGG in his top 10, ranted about the decision.

Re: Gennady Golovkin Stripped of IBF Title
I'm disappointed about Gennady losing his title, but his team have to own part of the responsibility for the IBF's decision, since it was highly predictable.
They could have anticipated this scenario and implemented a backup plan involving HBO and Derevyanchenko's representatives in February, when Canelo's drug test failure was announced.
Instead, Team GGG did nothing, made no backup plan and only started looking for a replacement opponent a few weeks prior to the Cinco de Mayo fight date.
Golovkin knew that insisting on fighting during Cinco de Mayo weekend against a journeyman would risk losing one of his belts, but he went ahead and did it anyway.
So they can't be too bothered about the IBF's decision.
If GGG is genuinely shocked about losing one of his belts, then he has been poorly advised.

I very much doubt Golovkin remotely cares about the belts at this stage of his career, he’s universally considered as No. 1 middleweight and just wants big money fights now he’s coming to the end of his career.

Everything was mapped out very nicely until a certain opponent tested positive to a banned substance.
It is still clear who the best at 160 pounds is, and has been for years, regardless of this development.

Yes, Golovkin still cares about belts. Golden Boy/Canelo with passive assistance of Loeffler screwed him up big. Loefler had to have an agreement with Derevo ready as a backup for the May fight.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑06 Jun 2018, 19:55 I very much doubt Golovkin remotely cares about the belts at this stage of his career, he’s universally considered as No. 1 middleweight and just wants big money fights now he’s coming to the end of his career.

I didn't expect this to happen. Well, now BJS fight looks more possible. And this is a far more interesting option, than that IBF defence.

He lost one but found another title (which he should have had for years):

Re: Gennady Golovkin Stripped of IBF Title
GGG at this should just fight Rod Salka and retire undefeated.
He cannot catch a break jeez!

Golovkin Promoter: IBF Stripped One of Their Best Champs Ever!
"I think it's unfortunate that they stripped one of their best champions in the history of their organization," Tom Loeffler told BS.com regarding the IBF's ruling.
"'Triple G' always complied with their rules, they had assigned a mandatory immediately that wasn't very marketable, that we got criticized for on our side, Dominick Wade," added Loeffler, who then referenced their bout with Danny Jacobs from March of last year.
"They created an uneven competitive playing field to the champion's disadvantage when they forced their champion to do a second-day weigh-in and the challenger [Jacobs] got a huge advantage by not having the second-day weigh-in and basically having two days to rehydrate and to put on a lot more weight than the champion."
But what irks Loeffler is - "they didn't even call the mandatory for Derevyanchenko. Derevyanchenko wasn't even asking to get 'Triple G' stripped. They [IBF] wanted to strip 'Triple G' and now the IBF has denied Derevyanchenko to fight 'Triple G' and us to work out a deal with his promoter. But at the end of the day, just like we've abided by their other rules we're going to abide by their decision. If they want to strip 'Triple G' that's their prerogative.
"We don't agree with it by any stretch but we're going to focus on making the biggest fight for Gennady the next time around," continued Loeffler, who says he is still trying to make the rematch for September with 'Canelo'.
"We know for sure now it's definitely not going to be Derevyanchenko."

Re: Gennady Golovkin Stripped of IBF Title
so he cant unify the belts, basically pressures him into taking the canelo fight for the money!
Re: Gennady Golovkin Stripped of IBF Title
Also, very effed up that they did this considering Golovkin abided by their rules, to his detriment, against Jacobs. He followed their rehydration clause while Jacobs came in massive and didn't even do the second weigh in.
