Re: Howard Foster...does he hate boxing?
I thought he shoudve gave Bellotti a count but in his defence he actually stopped it before Bellotti went down and he cant be changing his mind
Re: Howard Foster...does he hate boxing?
He messed up again but I suppose it's better too early than too late.
Re: Howard Foster...does he hate boxing?
He started to wave ot off before Bellotti went down, once he had gone over he decided to stick to his guns and end it without a count.
If he had backtracked and given Bellotti a count after having waved it off it would have been against the rules, I think.

Re: Howard Foster...does he hate boxing?
He is definitely jumpy. Doran v Maxwell, and Froch v Groves being two examples. If they start to make funny body movements he gives them no time to recover. True that may stop them getting KO'd, but it also stops them regaining their senses.
Re: Howard Foster...does he hate boxing?
degale vs dilks was laughably bad, one that always jumps to mind when i think of bad stoppages
and degale - periban he immediately stops it when periban goes down. thats the thing with him, stops it at pretty much the first sign
hes defo quick to the mark. and some say better to soon then to late, but thats dumb because theres always in between you know. its not like your only comparison point for a quick stoppage is a traumatic injury
but ijl is the king eff upper, as a judge and ref

Re: Howard Foster...does he hate boxing?
Nothing wrong with the stoppage IMO. Was looking after Bellotti who taking big shots from a big puncher. Foster was in the process of stopping the fighter on his feet. The fact Bellotti went down didn't matter.
Re: Howard Foster...does he hate boxing?
omg james threws some combos!! stop it!!
apply the standard of this stoppage to other fights and almost none will go the distance

Re: Howard Foster...does he hate boxing?
but still, this is even worse , from the king, possibly the worst stoppage ever

Ian John Lewis will always walk on water for me for that stoppage. I had a couple of grand on that fight ending early

Always thought he came across a bit of a weapon. Thought he was a lot better than he actually was!mickey1975 wrote: ↑07 Jun 2018, 09:31He used to post on here, Carl. He ended up threatening me. Can't remember how I upset him.

heh heh - I remember having £50 on Degale R1 vs Dilks !lefthook82 wrote: ↑07 Jun 2018, 08:09 Ian John Lewis will always walk on water for me for that stoppage. I had a couple of grand on that fight ending early
But, not talking out of our pockets for a moment - they were both shocking.
The Enzo stoppage was so bad it makes IJL look corrupt. At least Dilks had been hurt and wasn't throwing back.
Can anyone come up with a worse one ?
Re: Howard Foster...does he hate boxing?
Oh come on, Mate. That's no way to talk about Mickey.Stuarty wrote: ↑07 Jun 2018, 09:51Always thought he came across a bit of a weapon. Re: Howard Foster...does he hate boxing?
dilks had been throwing back all round except for like a few seconds when he was on the ropes, it was an awful stoppage, it was the first round and at worst dilks was minorly stunned for just a moment, imagine foster using those standards for groves-froch, there wouldve been like 10 times that froch was stopped
but ya ijls job on enzo vs ovill is pretty much unbeatable

That's quite the accomplishment! I gave him some stick for his horrible officiating but never got a rise out of him.mickey1975 wrote: ↑07 Jun 2018, 09:31He used to post on here, Carl. He ended up threatening me. Can't remember how I upset him.

Re: Howard Foster...does he hate boxing?
Was it Howard or Terry OC who reffed Degale Periban? That was one of the worst I ever saw. One knockdown: wave it off instantly.
Now, would the ref have been so quick to wave it off had Periban knocked down Degale?
If the answer is no then that is a double standard, and, to say the least, very unfair officiating.

Re: Howard Foster...does he hate boxing?
Howard Foster is a good referee. The examples put forward on here were all fair stoppages.
Dilks looked like he'd been ten rounds, and Periban was in big trouble just before taking that knockdown.
I think he does err on the side of caution generally - groves/froch 1 was too early for me but rather one too few than one too many.

Re: Howard Foster...does he hate boxing?
dilks looked like hed been 10 rounds, lmao
it was like a feeling out round for pretty much all but a combo or two, seriously, watch the round and please try to describe this attritional battering that was supposedly going on.. dilks hadnt been down, or badly hurt, or buckled several times, or had his face turned to pulp etc. and he was throwing back throughout the round. there were more clinches then notable punches for the most part. and it was the FIRST freaking round. talk about being over awed by the hyped fighter and letting that narrative sway you way too much. thats exactly what happened.
seriously, apply that standard to every other fight and pretty much none go the distance. awful garbage stoppage. and laughable that someone here would try to say that it was as if dilks had been 10, thats just someone looking to defend foster
btw, why is foster a good ref, rather then an average or poor one? to me a good ref stands out for getting it right, not for being jumpy. foster certainly aint the worst but i really cant say how he stands out for being good. he doesnt seem comfortable to me. when someone shows even a slight show of bother

Periban in "big trouble" before the KD
I think puncher's chance might be Mr Foster!

Re: Howard Foster...does he hate boxing?
i would seriously love an honest play by play description of dilks-degale. i really want to see how that could be classified as a battering that needed to be stopped before even one round had even been completed.

How do we explain the Amir Khan v Prescott fight? Home fighter? Happens all the time.
Cleverly was carried to the corner.
I know it was O’Comnor but same rules apply

Re: Howard Foster...does he hate boxing?
Don't forget the undefeated Derry Matthews fighting that little Mongolian killer... How many times did Derry go down before the ref finally conceded defeat? Six? And yet how many times would the Mongol needed to have gone down before the fight was stopped? Once? Twice? Often the answer is: not at all!
The examples are many. Away fighters are up against it over here nowadays.
Why have double standard stoppages become common practice in the UK? We are we a crooked boxing country, no better now than how Italy was perceived in the 80s and 90s, which saddens me greatly given the old British sense of fair play. We used to be better than these dodgy countries on the continent, the "You have to score a knockout to get a draw" places. Our refs, and the board that turns a blind eye, made us one of them. O'Connor waving off Kovalev/Cleverly, changing his mind when hearing the bell and carrying Clev to the corner, is an all-time low. The HBO commentary team were still laughing at Terry's antics in a later Kovalev fight. What a fine impression he made, with the world watching.
