Anthony Joshua Awarded OBE For Services To Sport

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Anthony Joshua has received an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours.

The 28-year-old heavyweight world champion, who currently holds the WBO, WBA Super, IBF and IBO crowns, was honoured for his services to boxing.

Joshua was rewarded with an MBE in 2013 after claiming a super-heavyweight Olympic gold medal at the London Games in 2012.

Are Carl Froch's MBE, services to sport less than AJ's then?

Yes, Froch boxed in front of a mere 80,000 people at Wembley, whereas AJ did it if front of 90,000...

Lewis was never awarded an OBE.
13.6.1998: Lewis was awarded an MBE in the Queens birthday honours list.
31.12.2001: Lewis was awarded a CBE in the Queens New Year honours list and collected it on 12.7.2002 from Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace.

Well done but it's the journeymen, the guys that step in at last minute to save shows that deserve the medals too.

Yeah cool, but I dont think it was just handed to him for standing in a ring with gloves on mate. Its more about impact, charity work, role model shite and all that jazz.

So Lennox got an MBE 10 years after the Olympics? Now days Olympians get it straight away. So what has Lennox not done that AJ already has?

If that's the case, give Hearn an OBE, because he made it happen.

A CBE is more prestigious than an OBE - so Lennox has a higher award at present.
Of course some time in the future Joshua may receive a knighthood!

Great achievement. Come a long way since his drug days. Hopefully Peter Fury and Pat Barrett will be next. Or Jimmy Tibbs, genuine services to the sport.

Doubt either Barrett or Fury will. Would they even want it?

Practically anybody can be put forward for an honour by a friend, family member or colleague.. The way the application is put forward will have a huge impact on whether the honour is granted or not. There are plenty of deserving cases who never got nominated or their application was shit; and vice versa.

"To make a nomination for an MBE/OBE/etc you need to tell the Honours and Appointments Secretariat all about the nominee's work and achievements in an official nomination document. You also need to provide a minimum of two supporting letters for your nomination although we would recommend between five and 15 letters."

Nope, and since he crushed that guy in his car that ship has sailed. However, for years before he deserved one...

He will never be in the queens honours list though, that is reserved for humble folk!
Nevertheless Joshua is a remarkable success story and his honour is well deserved.

Sorry i dont agree with sportsmen/women or celebs getting these honours,my neighbour has been working with the brownies for years even after her 2 girls grew up and left home, all voluntary and there are men and woman up and down this land who do exactly the same and more and they dont get rewarded. Celebs get more recognition even though they have the platform to get there charity work in the public eye were as the little people dont get seen, its all B.S reward others and get them on the front pages and on internet pages not the people who have the contacts to make things happen at the click of their fingers. Sorry for the rant but thats me lol well done to joshua but reward the every day man first.
