Leo Santa Cruz vs. Abner Mares II - June 9, 2018
Re: Leo Santa Cruz vs. Abner Mares II - June 9, 2018
2-2.
Mares fighting well, but he's working hard in there, I expect him to fade.

Good round for Mares. He's doing a lot better. Blew his load in the first fight, but he's fighitng more conservatively this time. By the way, LSC is such a good fighter. Very underrated talent.

LSC looks to be pulling away. Dominant round for him.

5-3 Leo. Too young, too fresh, outworking him.

Re: Leo Santa Cruz vs. Abner Mares II - June 9, 2018
s was the case in their classic first fight, the rematch was a tremendous action fight whose result was determined by Leo Santa Cruz's superior volume (88.4 punches per round to Abner Mares' 77.6) and better jabbing (28.9 attempts/8.0 connects per round to Mares' 31.1/3.4).
The final round saw a combined 224 punches thrown, 77 total connects, 72 landed power shots and 103 attempted power punches by Santa Cruz, a personal best for this volume-punching specialist. Scoring: 117-111, 116-112, 115-113 SC.
In their 2 fights, Santa Cruz landed 730 of 2115 punches, while Mares went 434 of 1908. That's 1164 combined landed and 4023 combined thrown punches for the two warriors.

I really enjoyed last nights fight. LSC has long been one of my favorites, and the fight didn't disappoint. I'd never followed Mares too closely, but he's not that far away from the best. If he would have tried to jab a little more he'd have had more success and closed up the scores a little bit. Fun fight!

Re: Leo Santa Cruz vs. Abner Mares II - June 9, 2018
Not as good as the first fight but it passed as entertaining.
Mares did better than I thought he would but Cruz's relentless effort was obviously going to be good enough as the fight wore on.
Leo Santa Cruz has a decent chin, he smiled his way through some of those rallies.
Mares stood his ground well at times and fought admirably.
Top level Mexican boxers rarely fail to give a main event the desire it deserves, I enjoyed it good fight and the right man won.
It will be interesting to see who both of them go up against in the near future.
