Went to the Bradley Skeete fight last month in Bilbao. Must have been 50 non-basques in a crowd of 5000. No alcohol available. Fairly ‘hostile’ to a point but felt safe as houses. Even the missus enjoyed it. No police and relatively few stewards.

This is a British thing. And the travellers are never far away from the mither.

When was the last time there wasn't a fight in the crowd at a Tyson fight?

What are the odds that it will kick-off at his next fight? (more likely outside the ring than inside!).

Basically every traveller / traveller fan-boy in the country are jumping on the bandwagon.

They all reckon they know / are cousins of Tyson, and want to go to his fights, have a few pints, some beak, and show how hard they are by kicking-off.

I don't know why but the Spanish don't scrap, when u go to nightclubs etc there are never any scraps. I'm surprised there was no alcohol available though. I saw the fight on the telly, it was an amazing if not intimidating atmosphere.

The Pikeys like a ruck and a lot of them do cause bother but to be fair, they're not any worse than your average piss head! I've been going to shows since I was around 10 years old and I've seen a lot of bother but personally I've only ever been in one fight, and it wasn't even a fight, just a punch and it got split up...

I'm still waiting til my kids are older til I take them though!

I can be a bit short on drink but only sometimes. If I'm on the nose candy then I'm usually everyone's mate! It's weird that some folk take it and go bush

It needs looking at.
Proper Door Supervisors throughout the crowd would help, rather than the strewards they have, but they cost a lot more than the stewards do.
That said, 50% of SIA badged door supervisors are effing melons now anyway.
I wont take my kids to shows. I go to about 5 or 6 am shows in a year and maybe 10 or 11 pro shows. The only trouble I've seen at am shows is travellers.
50% of SIA door supervisors are exactly the sort of people who get involved in this sort of brawl.

Like anything it effects people differently but the vast majority of these kick offs involve people who are on some sort of substance, mainly alcohol.

After it my dad was pure raging saying 'calling me a Scottish wank', I said to be fair, you are Scottish and you are a wank  You need to laugh!,

The thing is, these boxing events always take place at night, which means some people have been on the ale all day so by the time they get into the venue they're steaming anyway, slightest nudge from someone or decide they don't like anyone who happens to glance at them and they explode.

Most there on Saturday were football fans. He’s tapped into the casuals. Henry Wharton was one of the biggest ticket sellers of the 90’s and had zero trouble at his fights. And there were some rough lads from Hull, Darlington, Doncaster, York at every one. McNess fans were worse at The Copperbox, until they got chinned. I’ve even seen three black lads absolutely destroyed because Ryan Rhodes got stopped by Jason Matthews! Worst one recently was Damo Jones in Barnsley. That made Saturday look like schoolboy stuff. As soon as I saw his coaches pull up I knew it was trouble.

They don't really have a drinking culture. They drink socially with meals but they don't go out to drink.

My mate had a bunch of them over on some exchange, they were all pretty laid back but didn't understand the concept of going out to drink. Mind you one of them staying with him used to put coffee on her cornflakes and didn't wash her clothes.

That's not 100% true, while it is very typical that a night starts of with a big meal, the Spanish can really party whether you are talking of drink or drugs but it hardly ever translates into violence.
At worst people do it with words but even then if it is heated it doesn't descend into punches being thrown.
If someone was giving it the big one they would be shocked if someone turned round and belted them!

Fair points Mickey. I remember reading about one incident where things got incredibly nasty outside the venue and think that someone was even run over - was that the Rhodes/Matthews incident you're talking about?

That was a Silky Jones card wasn't it? Mate of Matthews got pulled off the coach and ran over. Interestingly Matthews called for a ban on alcohol at venues.

I saw the Wharton v Eubank fight live and it was electric, by far the best fight I've been to in terms of atmosphere. No trouble at all and I was sat among thousands of lads from all over Yorkshire.

No, it was Hatton/Farnell. Rhodes—Matthews topped the bill, Doncaster. It was very bad.
