The honours list is meaningless nowadays; just a celebrity bauble.

Local fella to me, Don Braithwaite; fairly decent amateur boxer and half decent pro boxer.
He run, and pretty much paid for with his own money, boxing gyms for about 40 years. He did loads for boxing and his local community .. yet only recently got the lowest honour - British Empire Medal.

Win a medal in the Olympics or star is some reality tv show and you get an MBE thrown at you ... nonsense.

It's that way in every country. Celebrities are treated like God's and the truly giving humble people never get recognized

The journeymen are an integral part of the game over here but they don't excel at the sport so they don't get honoured...

Do they deserve medals? Yeah, as you say. They do save a lot of shows :TU:

:TU: Joshua's is for 'Services to boxing',so like you say, there is a whole world of less fortunate, not less skilled boxers keeping the game alive, think how much an OBE or MBE could change the life of a 'journeyman'.

That's the thing, there's a lot of guys behind the scenes that go unnoticed! Boxing is a hard corrupt sport.

You play football and get noticed then a team will take you in and coach you. If you manage to catch the attention of a promoter then they literally just use you and bleed you dry! Imagine the talent that's slipped through the net because they weren't looked after properly!!

Read an interview with Tyler Goodjohn last night about how he got treated and what pushed him away from the sport.

An Olympic gold medal means you're pretty much a guarantee for an honour.

Yes but got stripped of it when he got slapped on the wrist for nearly killing somebody.

I had just started senior amateur and my mate, who is a few years older had signed with Barry Hughes. Things were going ok and he tried to harness his fighters but he got busted and went tits up. My mate signed with Tommy Gilmour. At the time I was considering turning over. My mate came back and said Gilmour was the biggest wanker he'd ever encountered! He signed with him but the guy was a cock! Tried to use him as fodder a few times on short notice rather than build him up! That put me off. Plus I didn't have the dedication my mate had!

Games full of sharks man!

Looks that way, at the end of the day boxing is a sport full of thugs, criminals, woman beaters and various other dodgy characters so yeah a lot of things are generally ignored.

AJ committed crimes when he was younger but he seems to have turned his life around as so many have done beforehand.

Nas committed a crime after he finished fighting so if his OBE was stripped then its tough to argue it.

I would argue that Nas’s (and Tibbs/Barrett’s for that matter who someone mentioned earlier) were more serious than AJ’s.

Trying to pretend Joshua was some master criminal because he sold a bit of weed shows how desperate some people are.
