Conor Benn vs. Cedric Peynaud II - 28 July 2018

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Conor Benn and Cedric Peynaud served up one of the fights of the year in 2017 when they clashed at York Hall in December, and the rematch will take place under the dome. Benn looked in serious trouble of tasting defeat for the first time as a pro after hitting the deck twice in the opening session, but the son of British legend Nigel rallied to floor the Frenchman in the fifth and sixth rounds to edge a stunning contest – the return has added spice with a title on the line in Benn’s 13th pro outing.

Same. He showed bollocks in the first fight but he doesn't look like he'll get anywhere near domestic level. I think he'll win the rematch but he'll probably be facing turnips for a while to come yet. Still only 21 though so who knows.

Agree, admire his grit but that's it
Yeah he's got time to come on hasn't he but still , can't see too much coming from him

Good luck to him though :TU:

Benn should fight at least one weight class lower. He’s tiny

Ref here is crucial. I wonder if it'll be one of the usual suspects.

Good matchup. As others have said Conor isn't world class, he's been quite easily matched so far but seems a nice lad. I saw a video of his dad recently saying there was no point in him having a rematch with Peynaud so fair play to them for taking it. Will be interesting to see if he has learnt anything from the first fight.

That was exactly my initial reaction. A draw wouldn't surprise me in all honesty.

He‘ll be getting well paid anyway. That’s fast car, he’s great at getting fights organized.

Normally I may be inclined to agree, but after reading an interview with him he genuinely sounded desperate for a second crack. He'd definitely not your average journeyman... we''ll see

Indeed. If it's IJL, Phil Edwards, Michael Alexander or Terry O'Connor then the French lad will get stopped the first time he takes a jab.

Peynaud is coming off a win over a legend. Will he get the win over the son of a legend next?

I think he’s got a great chance.

His whole fake sarrrffffff London accent, posh pampered but tattooed, street kid bullshite persona is a little grating. He talks like he is his dad and from the streets but he has lived a charmed life.

"My dad gave me nothing" ……..except a good education, exotic holidays, huge homes, no struggles, designer clothes, knowledge of lifetime financial security and a fck off big inheritance etc

But I judge on what a guy can do in the ring and is obviously trading on dads name and hugely overrated (by casual fans) and in reality does not have what it takes but the boy sure does have grit in the ring, no denying that. Despite it all, he has heart and balls but his ring future is limited.

I had Benn losing the first fight.
Wasn't shocked he got the nod, it was close. A full camp and I think Paynaud can win it. Let's face it, if Benn hasn't developed any defence since their last fight, then Paynaud will be fit enough to keep at him and score a TKO/KO.
It was Paynaud's conditioning that let him down past the 3rd round.

Agree with this.

I give him full marks for rematching the guy that gave him such a hard time, because he really doesn't need to do this at this stage in his career, but it shows that he wants to prove himself, so good luck to him.

I think I had the first fight a draw. No way was there 3 points in it. I think he'll try to box smart and win a comfortable decision here. Is it a 6 rounder again?

Agree with the point about Benn not being a welterweight as well.

The first fight was probably the best 6 rounder I have ever seen.

But the fact that Benn is having foty contenders against mediocre opposition at this stage gives an indication of the level he will likely reach.

I expect it to be a good fight though, we will see if he has learned anything or if Paynard can put in an even better showing with a bit more notice.

I felt he was lucky to get the draw but you can't question his heart/balls.

His KDs came late in the fight as Peynaud was tiring and I felt like another round and he would have got the stoppage perhaps.

Interesting rematch for sure.
