Can You Confidently Predict a Joshua Wilder Outcome?

Post by Taansend »

I often talk to Ray Milton, who is a trainer along with Dan Birmingham here in St Pete (although now he owns a Vegan Soul Food restaurant bankrolled by Keith Thurman) & he is convinced that Wilder is going to knock Joshua out.

"There's a method to his madness" were his exact words to me.

As for me, I think Joshua wins but it's not clear cut for me, maybe 70/30. The longer the fight goes the better Joshuas chances. But with a puncher like WIlder, no matter how unschooled he appears, you can never write him off.

Do you feel confident enough to predict an outcome.

You have up to three votes in case you think Wilder early or Joshua late or points.

And don't take this thread too seriously :D I just thought it would be interesting to get a general idea having watched this video.

I'm not sure that Joshua's chances improve the longer the fight goes. He seems to slow down in the middle to late rounds whereas Wilder, who carries a lot less muscle, looks like he has a good engine. If AJ was out on his feet as he was against Wlad, Wilder would be more than willing to take the chances that Wlad didn't want to take in trying to stop Joshua.

Wilder is more athletic, quicker and hits harder. I wouldn't say that he has good footwork but he probably moves better than Joshua, if that makes sense. I'd back Joshua to stop him though due to his superior technique. He can be quite basic but to be fair to him he does do the basics well. He's got a good 1-2, a short left hook and dangerous right uppercut. I think he could catch Wilder by punching in between those big swings, as Ortiz did. He might have to put himself in harms way to land the shots but I'll lean towards Joshua landing first.

Also, if Joshua was to hurt Wilder the way Ortiz did then he'd have 2 things in his favour. Firstly, he's much younger and fresher so should get more of a second wind to push the pace and finish Deontay. Secondly, the fight would likely take place in the UK so with our referees, Wilder wouldn't get the chance to fight back. If his team have any sense they'll have a neutral referee, not Foster, IJL or big Terry. Even still, with 80,000 Brits screaming for Joshua a premature stoppage wouldn't surprise me. Followed by uproar from boxing fans and Eddie licking his lips as the deal for the second fight in NYC or Vegas would already be agreed.

Wilder is wide open but deadly, he's never failed yet and that's a formidable combination of punching power and confidence. I can see him caning Joshua who seems to be working on rounding out his game. I can also see Joshua keeping Wilder honest and having enough recuperation (because he burns out but is clearly working on overcoming that with adapting his approach) in the tank to make Wilder burnout and desperate enough to leave himself wide open.
Either one can be laid out early.
I give Wilder a clear cut edge right now. Joshua is no Lennox Lewis even though there seems to be a lurking hope out there that he'll turn into the second coming.
But I'm making no predictions and placing no bets. Hindsight will rule the day.

Couldn't predict the winner with any confidence but I think it could be a tentative bore for a few or more rounds then it'll explode in to life and someone is getting ktfo!

They could fight multiple times with different outcomes and each one appear definitive.

Each is capable of winning by ko,Joshua appears to me to be a bit more sturdy, then again i think Wilder hits harder,so what i'm saying is that i haven't got a clue who wins :box:

I’ve gone for either AJ early or Wilder late. I think if AJ can catch Wilder cold then he’s just not going to be able to recover, however the longer it goes on I think Wilder has the better engine and he’ll stop a tiring AJ maybe in the 10th or 11th...

I have a strong feeling that Wilder is going to absolutely spark Joshua cold.

Does Wilder get up from the shot that Wlad landed on Joshua? I suspect Wilder would have been out from a few shots Wlad landed on Joshua that night.

Wilder has a real chance of course but, he just telegraphs his shots too much for my liking.

You watch it be a bore fest despite everyone calling it a certain shootout!

If I were Joshua I’d be on him like a rash from the opening bell. Deontay can be a slow starter

Wilder is a bit wild! Which in fact is one of his biggest strengths, AJ is well schooled, used to fighting well schooled fighters so if Wilder is throwing bombs from unorthodox angles one could get home.
However I don't think Wilder chin will hold up against Joshua and I think the Englishman will get to him and not let him off the hook before the first half of the fight is out.

Wilder can't keep relying on one punch and hoping each decent opponent will gas out

He's always been a accident waiting to happen and has a pretty poor resume for this reason - Joshua will wear him down before Wilder catches him

AJ KO by 7

I'd also have Whyte and Parker both KO'ing Wilder

As soon as Joshua lands clean with a couple of power shots, it's over. Wilder has been rocked by jabs. I also think the Ortiz fight has put a lot of miles on Wilder's clock.

i give aj an edge but not a fight where im super confident , wilders very dangerous, very good power and speed and reach

one thing i disagree with a lot of ppl on is wilders unorthodoxy being an advantage for deontay. hes had length, speed, and power on everyone hes faced, if he also had a style advantage we wouldnt see him have nearly as many issues with much less gifted opponents. its precisely that crudeness that allows far inferior talents like molina to hurt him and a guy like szpilka to outbox him multiple rounds and last till later

hes won despite his technical flaws, not because them. he wins because of his great natural gifts
