did east euro fanboys toss kov to the trash
he seems like an after thought to a lot of ppl now after the new russian guy bivol and even gyodzk,, and also jack, etc. because you can say ward beat kov, but you cant say ward beat bivol/beterbiev/gvofzyk and so east euro fanboys move onto those guys as the new hopes, esp. bivol
i mean, ya, kov lost to ward twice, but scoring a kd and being highly competitive with such an amazing boxer like ward is very impressive to me, more then koing barrera, drawing with adonis, etc. and some ppl say 'but ppl were saying kov would wreck him!; , um, okay, ward was actually the favoruite for both fights and were loads of picks that kov would hardly win a round.
he just seems to have faded out of ppls thoughts a bit. i think part of that, at least on the end of the euro fan boys, is that they wanted this monster to beat up american based fighters + adonis, and when kov wasnt quite that at the highest level they went looking to guy like bivol for it. but lets just take kov for what he is, and i still think hes really good.
,
fight vs alvarez will be interesting, if kov wins thats still easily one of the best recent wins in the division. but since we can say 'ward beat kov' but cant say that for ward beating bivol, its on to the bivol train

thats one thing that always gets me, i dont think a lot of ppl realise how impressive it is to fight that closely vs ward, even in defeat. kov is one example of how lossess matter way to much to a lot of ppl
boxing fans: too much credit for so so wins and way too harsh on high level losses.
funny thing is that its often the fighters previous supporters that are the harshest

I’m not an East Euro fanboy, but I’ll comment anyway. It does seem that Kovalev is now being underrated & nearly forgotten about, which is odd considering he’s only lost to Ward. However, the manner of the second defeat (basically quitting when the pressure was properly on him for the first time ever) doesn’t help his cause.
Re: did east euro fanboys toss kov to the trash
and look at that 10/10 punchers thread, bunch of times bivols name is brought up and also beterbiev and gvozdyk, but not once for kov except my post about it, even though kov has dropped or stopped all but 1 opponent, has 28 ko in 32 wins, and literally killed a man
hes the invsible man these days

ya, good point, although the rematch was even still very close for most of it and the first fight was super close and loads had it for kovBoxerbeetle wrote: ↑14 Jun 2018, 03:48 I’m not an East Euro fanboy, but I’ll comment anyway. that second fight ending was a bad look though, i agree, but i still find way more value in kovs accomplishments and losses then guys like bivol, beterbiev, and gvyodzk. kov still seems very dangerous to me
Re: did east euro fanboys toss kov to the trash
That's true, Kovalev is being underestimated now. Just after two losses with the first one being arguable to the undefeated p4p competitor. That's kinda ridiculous. Bivol, Gvozdyk and Beterbiev have never met anyone of such level. Stevenson was fighting lower class competition and now almost blew the fight to the better fighter than the bunch of his previos challengers. Kovalev is still the best guy in the division.
Re: did east euro fanboys toss kov to the trash
looking forward to Kovalev - Alvarez fight

Re: did east euro fanboys toss kov to the trash
Majority think he beat Ward in the first fight. And the second fight was possibly one of the worst superfight endings ever. But even if Kov had KO'd Ward it would make no difference to me in terms of Bivol-Kovalev. Bivol would beat him.
Re: did east euro fanboys toss kov to the trash
Me too!
I feel for Alvarez, waiting so long for a chance at a belt. He should have taken a chance with Krusher ages ago, instead of wasting his prime waiting for Chickenson.
I'm not a Euro fanboy, but I am excited by the LHW guys coming out of Eastern Europe. Drilled, skilled, and dangerous.
Re: did east euro fanboys toss kov to the trash
People hype Bivol too much. That fight with Barrera was very impressive, i agree. Bivol - Jack is fight i wanna to see.

Re: did east euro fanboys toss kov to the trash
I guess it's slightly off topic- Joe Smith Jr is back in the ring soon. His jaw has healed nicely and he is taking a soft touch in his return.
Personally I think Joe gets drilled by the Bivol/Glovsdyk/Bietebiev's of the division, and I don't know where he is headed going forward.

Re: did east euro fanboys toss kov to the trash
btw is "fanboys" some kind of insult here?

Re: did east euro fanboys toss kov to the trash
I think it’s meant to be. The original poster is a youngling who is upset that golovkin outsmarted him (personally - golovkin did it as a personal insult to him specifically) and negotiated more money for the Canelo clash.
Can’t see why anyone would look down on someone liking a Bivol. He has silky smooth boxing skills and power. It’s very exciting to watch someone so young with so much promise.
Re: did east euro fanboys toss kov to the trash
I think what happened is that people got really fed up on the whole Kovalev - Ward saga.
Most people got pissed about the first robbery and on the scandalous way that the second fight ended.
Ward fans were pissed because nobody gave Ward any credit for the wins.
People don't want to go back to that negative place. That in turn means that people don't want to think/talk about Kovalev at the moment.
I think that all Kovalev needs now is one big win and hes back on peoples radar.

Re: did east euro fanboys toss kov to the trash
There are some Boxers that gain fans loyalty and regard in a loss and some who have to rebuild a portion of their fanbase all over again. Arturo Gatti is probably the best example of this. He left his heart out there and above all else, he had the humility and class to give his opponents that bested him the credit they deserved. Fans loved him for it.
Kovalev along with his Promoter couldn't have handled either loss worse and it cost them. Fans are put off by this attitude and excuse making. Fans love a guy that can congratulate the other guy and show class in a loss.

I am living in Eastern Europe, but I am not an "East Euro fanboy", I am just a boxing fan, it is very simple.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑14 Jun 2018, 03:48 I’m not an East Euro fanboy, but I’ll comment anyway. I admit that I often can not understand people in the my part of the world, but I am sure that less than 1% Americans know anything about EE.
Regarding Kovalev, I feel he is considered recently as some kind of damaged goods. I think he is partly guilty for this kind of opinions. It might be seen as a bad luck (the venue, the referee, the judges, and an excellent opponent, of course) but I am convinced that he has not been prepared properly, the elite fighter must not have the problems with his stamina -this is the fact......So, will he make the great come-back ? I doubt it, Bivol is younger and stronger than him, Gvozdyk might be the better one(or at least equal), and he had been defeated (twice ?) in amateurs by Beterbiev. Old Stevenson is still here, so my final predictin is : Kovalev is still among top 5 LHWs, but I doubt he can become No. 1 LHW, he has already wasted his best chance.

Re: did east euro fanboys toss kov to the trash
Since the two Ward fights, he's fought a couple of easier opponents. Opponents without name recognition too.
He's off the radar, because of that. If he'd beat Barrera, Joe Smith, Jack etc, people would still be talking. Nobody outside of hardcore fans knows who Slava or Mikhalkin are, especially in America.
The Alvarez fight will put him back on people's minds. He's still top dog at 175, until somebody else does something big.

I think it’s more people see Kov as being past his best now. He needs to keep himself relevant.

Kovalev is a better boxer than Ward, and he beat SOG in their first fight. He does seem to have some psychological issues, and that was probably the main reason he never made it to top in amateurs.

Re: did east euro fanboys toss kov to the trash
He was hyped big time and then was exposed and embarrassed by Ward.
That certainly didn't help Kovalev's bad ass aura.
And since the Ward defeats, he hasn't helped himself by taking on 2 no-hopers....and not looking very spectacular.
So naturally Kovalev is now getting scant attention.
If he beats Alvarez it's a step in the right direction. But Alvarez isn't a huge name, and Kovalev will need to convincingly beat a Stevenson, Bivol, Jack or Beterbiev to regain his lost luster.

Re: did east euro fanboys toss kov to the trash
he wasnt some ggg type of ultra hyped up as invincible fighter, he was underdog both times vs ward. lots of previous talk of vulnerability and limitations. loads saying both times hed get schooled by ward and hardly win a round, but he was highly competitive vs an amazing boxer, but i guess beating up 2nd , 3rd, and 5th tier guys like bivols doing means more to fans.
hype up bivol and trash kov, say hes embarassin and exposed and overrated, even though kov was super competitive at a waaaaay higher level then bivols fought at. thats boxing fans though, jizz to beating 3rd tier but trash a guy for losing and says hes exposed and overrated, even if he only lost to p4p #1.
alvarez would easily be one of the best wins anyone at lhw has got there over the last few years. actually the biggest aside from ward beating kov himself. btw kov looked pretty destructive vs shab at least, bivol gets hype from beating a guy who got dropped in a war with shab
